Removing wires from a GM steering column plug

I'd like to remove some wires from the female side of a 4" GM steering column plug, but can't seem to find the secret. I can get them out of the male side no problem, but haven't been able to find out how to do the female side. This picture isn't the actual plug, but will show the type of plug. Thanks, Bill

  • I use my Grandma's old hat pin to release the metal tang.
If you are going to splice them with a butt connector, cut them loose.
No problems, no fun with hot rods.

  • Go in from the back side of the plastic plug with an awl and release the tang that holds the connector in. The wire will then pop right out. The wire have the crimped connector on each end. The retention tang is part of the connector. Hope this helps.
