Have a 200-4R trans. It seems like the converter is locking in all gears. Idle speed is set at 800 rpm and idles nice in park and neutral. When put in gear, reverse or drive, it wants to bog to the point of dying if I do not give it gas. It shifts fine up thru the gears. My question is will I damage anything if I unplug the torque converter lock up and drive it that way for a few weeks until I can take a look at it? It has a TCI lockup kit, installed several years ago. Wondering if the solenoid i ... Read All ...

I know the purest blacks are single stage, but I want to use base/clear, but want something as clear and clean and pure black as possible. Any recommendations? I'm also considering two tone, using a pearl bronze that I originally intended to paint the '37 on the bottom with the black on top and down the slantback. What's the best way to end up with a flush joint between the two colours? The joint would follow a belt line so wouldn't be too noticeable, but would like to make it disappear if I can. I may ... Radiator caps have different pressures. How does one determine which type to use. I noticed the spring tension is different on various caps. accounting for the pressure of the cap. What happens if the pressure cap is too high or too low??? raf

Last week in Kentucky it was unseasonably cool. High temps were in the 70's. We went the whole week without using the house A/C. This week its the usual July heat and humidity. Last nights weather forecast was for the cool weather to return next week. I checked the Louisville ten day forecast and the Wednesday July 30 high is to be 78, Thursday 81, Friday 82 and no rain. Looks as if this years weather couldn't be better. Only once since the Nats have been in Louisville was it ever as cool as what's being f ... Read All ...

I have seen some Crown Vic suspension swaps on you tube for 53 through 56 f-100. My question is has anyone on this site had any experience with them even if you have not I am interested in opinions. I bought another 55 but do not (I think) want to keep the stock axle even with power steering. Here again I would like opinions on that as well. I have picked up a crown vic front end so I do have it handy. Thanks

9 Chevy Radiator Hi All, Its time to replace my Rad in my 39 Chevy. I wanted to poll your vast knowledge for a good best fit Rad as most of you might know it will need to fit in the Rad support. I currently have a rebuilt core and using the original upper and lower tanks, its been fine for 15 years but is now leaking. Your thoughts as always are appreciated. Tom

I have a fiberglass 34 Coupe with power windows, it has the normal double switch on the drivers door and the single switch on the passenger door. Before I get into the problem I'll let you know that I have replaced both switches. The window on the drivers door is fine with good speed up or down, but the passenger door window goes down like an elevator but goes up very slow or not at all without some help with my hand and this is the same using either switch. I don't believe that its the motor because I remo ... Read All ...

How can I determine if my 355 SBC in internally or externally balanced? Need to purchase a new flexplate and need to determine how engine is balanced to get the correct one. I can't be 100% sure the flexplate that is currently installed is correct since I have no idea who built the engine. Engine block casting and stamped numbers indicate this block started life in 1975 as a 350 truck engine. Engine has been rebuilt so rotating assembly part numbers are unknown. I believe the current flexplate is 168 tooth, ... Read All ...

Did not realize that the summary would not appear?????????? Anyway, the 700-r4 in my 40 coupe is in need of a rebuild. I am considering replacing it with a 200-4r. Gain a little room.

I am a little concerned about finding a dipstick/filler tube that will work with my stock 40 firewall. I found one for the 700 that fit perfectly but the 200 does not allow the straight shot the 700 does. I do not want to use one of the Lokar units if I can avoid it. Any thoughts?

Short poll. If you were building a street rod today what rear end would you use? Things have changed over the years, more of Detroit cars are coming with rear disc and independent so a Ford 9" is not the ONLY rear to use. Of course the next queston to follow is: what suspension to use?
