REDUCED 7/18/2008 FOR A QUICK SALE! SPARE PARTS INCLUDED WITH PURCHASE! ALUMINUM WHEELS IN ABOVE PHOTOS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE IF PREFERRED.
I've owned this car for just over two years, but with three other hot rod projects my driver has to go! This is a 1941 Ford Tudor Sedan. It is a mostly stock survivor, with just a few modifications. This car is a GREAT traditionally styled hot rod with nice --very light-- patina.
Engine: Stock, very good running flathead. I suspect it’s been rebuilt at some time because it runs so well. I’ve replaced the stock fiber cam gear with an aluminum one. Carb has been recently rebuilt. Have both mechanical and electric fuel pumps. Oil pressure around 10 PSI idling, 20 PSI driving. Doesn’t overheat during regular driving but it’s a flathead so it will warm up while sitting. A quick trip down the street cools it right down. Full dual exhaust with Smithy’s mufflers exit out the back with chromed pencil tips.
Transmission: Stock three-on-the-tree. Shifts smooth and clean. Never “falls out” of any gear.
Driveline: Stock torque tube and stock rear axle.
Electrical: Still 6V throughout. A previous owner purchased a new wiring harness (cloth wrapped type) and installed the rear section. Front section sitting in the trunk waiting for you! Current wiring in the car is fine. Recent 6V battery installed. Headlights (low and high beam), blinkers, brake lights all work. Car is currently registered with current safety inspection.
Paint: I suspect the paint was done 30+ years ago, as the lacquer is checked and thin in spots. A few spots show the red oxide primer through, mainly right rear fender. The body is very nice, but there is some bondo under the paint. The car has the patina that I like but it’s not ratty. The hood has the most checked lacquer on it, most areas have no checking at all.
Interior: I believe that the car has newer mohair upholstery than stock because it’s in such nice shape. Probably done the same time as the paint, and probably just the front and rear seats were done. The door panels and headliner are most likely original, but still in very nice shape. Carpet is good but bunched in a few areas. Stock rubber floor under carpet.
Dash: Speedometer, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, and stereo all work perfectly. Amp gauge, fuel gauge, and clock (big surprise) do not work. Heater works and has valves under the hood to redirect hot water during summer months to keep the heat out of the interior. The top section of the dash (painted like wood) is a little faded and worn, but still looks nice.
Brakes: Excellent! Even for four wheel drums! Doesn’t pull to either side during braking.
Wheels/tires: Radial tires all around with very good tread. Wheel Vintique’s 15x7 and 15x5 steel wheels painted pale yellow, Wheel Vintique’s ribbed trim rings, and Bob Drake ’41 Ford center caps. Aluminum wheels in photos are also available if interested. I haven't take a lot of pictures of the car since I put the steelies on, but will happily take some recent pictures if you're interested. The photo with the steelies was taken on a very overcast day, the whole picture seems to have washed out as the paint is darker than it appears here.
Although I’ve located the cars THREE previous owners nobody can tell me much of the history of the car other than they intended to tear it completely down and rebuild it, but enjoyed driving it so much they never did. I understand why as I’ve driven the car some 6000 miles in two years and love it too!
The lowering was achieved by de-arching the springs. Rides nicely but does bottom out and “clunk” on bigger bumps.
My wife, kids and I really enjoy this car but it’s time to move on. We will miss it and hope it goes to a good home! Runs straight down the highway and moves along with traffic at 65 MPH.
