URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

Pro-Hobbyist Street Rod and Custom Vehicle Bill to be Considered by Wyoming Committee on Thursday, Jan. 25

SEMA model legislation (H.B. 214) that would create a vehicle registration classification for street rods and custom vehicles and provide for special license plates for these vehicles will be considered by the Wyoming House Transportation, Highways and Military Affairs Committee on Thursday, January 25. Introduced by State Representative Pat Childers, H.B. 214 defines a street rod as an altered vehicle manufactured before 1949 and a custom as an altered vehicle at least 25 years old and manufactured after 1948. The bill allows kit cars and replica vehicles to be assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle they most closely resemble.

We Urge You to Contact All Members of the Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Support for H.B. 214

For those interested in attending the hearing to show their support, the committee will meet on Thurs., Jan. 25 at the following address and time:

State Capitol, Room H-17 (3rd Floor)

200 West 24th Street Cheyenne, Wyoming 82002-0010

(Hearing will be held in the afternoon upon adjournment of House floor session)

• H.B. 214 provides specific registration/titling classes and license plates for street rods and customs.

• H.B. 214 only holds street rods and customs to the equipment standards specified by law during the model year listed on the title of the vehicle.

• H.B. 214 provides that a replica vehicle will be assigned the same model year designation as the production vehicle it most closely resembles.

• H.B. 214 permits street rods and custom vehicles to display blue dot taillights.

• H.B. 214 provides that vehicles titled and registered as street rods and custom vehicles may be used for occasional transportation, exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, etc. and not for general daily transportation.
