Hope to get a little direction here. Been pretty slow on the 37 due to health problems but still doing what I can. Have the LT1 all running right and got it all buttoned back up, and took it out for a short (about 5 mile) test run last night. Trans upshifts very well (in fact almost too firm and chirps the tires on the 1-2 shift at moderate throttle). Problem is the trans won't down shift by itself in any gear position when moving, but does drop back to 1st when I come to a stop. Any thoughts on where to go? I don't have access to a code reader but the 'check engine' light's not on. I really don't want to have to pull the trans again. Any ideas on adjustments to check or things to look at? Thanks in advance for the help.

Jerry, Thanks for the tip. I didn't think the 4L60E had a tv cable. I finally broke down and got a decent code reader. The trans issue is high line pressure so it has to be adjusted down. I think that's one I'll pass over to the trans shop. Still fighting the health issues but hanging in there. Just slow on the work on the 37---but it'll get done. Thanks again and for all the earlier advice during the build on the 37.

No tv cable on a 4L60E trans. Shifting is all done thru the computer. Take the car to the local transmission shop. They should be able to pull the codes for your language (pre 98). Make sure the two wire bundles going into the trans are tight. Let me know what you find. Hope you are feeling better.

Jim--It's definitely a streetrod--37 Ford cabriolet, Gibbons body, Boxed 36 frame, LT1, 4L60E, 9"rear w/355".

Brant--had the PCM reprogrammed by PCM's for less. The wiring harness is from Painless. When we installed this new drivetrain last year the car was fine. The distributor took a dump and had to be replaced. The problem cropped up since then. Not to be an idiot (but that often describes me)---I'm not familiar with a tv cable on the electronic controlled trans. The throttle cable and brackets are from Lokar.

Thanks for the replies, guys, and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Before you drive it anymore have the pressure set by adjusting the tv cable. You will burn it up and it won't shift right until it is at spec.

George, sorry to hear that you are still battling health issues and wiring problems. Talked to Carpro today while he was at Macungie and he said he had talked with you and said you were still having problems with the 37. Hang in there it will all come together soon. At least you haven't got silver suv's targeting your cars. I hardly go out out any more with out checking the weather and suv forecasts. ;-)

What wiring harness do you have and has the pcm been "flashed" for you application from anyone like Street & Performance, etc.. Did you have the tv cable adjusted properly to get the right psi. Should be around 90-95 psi I believe. -Brant

The 4L60E trans only performs as the ECM tells it.

If the trans upshifts all gears automatically and down shifts when the vehicle comes to a full stop.......it sounds like all the internal parts and solenoids are functioning.

It would be good to know the year of the 4L60E.... there were some changes to the trans v-body .

ALso different ohm rating on the 3-2 shift solenoid.

There are only 2 shift solenoids. The trans is in a different gear depending on which and how many solenoids are "on" or "off".

For some reason something is not turning 'off ' or 'on the proper solenoids for a down shift from say OD to 3rd or 2nd gear when the loud pedal is mashed.

I suspect a programing problem or a data input to the ECM is not telling the ECM to downshift the tranny.
