Any thoughts on what to use on new aluminum wheels. They have an excellent finish and shine extremely well. I don't want to use the Zoops coating since it slightly reduces the shine. Was thinking of waxing them to seal the aluminum before it starts to oxidize.

use the same thing you use on your paint. polish it and then wax it. i use to buy all the new stuff just for wheels but found out polish is polish. wax will keep water from spotting and dirt from sticking. try it

I feel Flitz is an excellent product for rendering and maintaining a luster and "shine like new" appearence. They say that the shine will last a lot longer than with conventional polish because of the chemicals they use.

BOM Procucts also has an awesome billet polish I have used. You can look at their stuff at www.badtothebom.com. . It also did a great job taking the bluing off of my exhaust pipes!

Luster Lace is a product we sell on our website, used for wrapping around the tips of our Slick Stixxx Detailing tools to get into.....clean AND polish...... hard-to-reach areas that you can't reach by hand. This product is more of a chemical "brightener" than a polish that "cuts" the aluminum. The polish will not remove pits or stains like a Mother's or the like. With the luster laces, they don't create a new surface, they just make an already good surface shine more..er bertterer. You don't get a lot of that black matter as you polish cause it's not removing much aluminum.

If you have hard to reach spots on the wheels, the slick stixxx can help you safely clean and polish those. The handles are coated with vinyl so they don't scratch. Check out the website ......www.slickstixxx.com and look for the slick stixxx in action button on the product info page to see photos of guys detailing their cars.......they worked great on the wheels and around the lug nuts!! Great on chrome grills as well.

For my new wheels I used Mothers Aluminum polish. Took care of the minor scratches and the shine held up for at least 6 months. My wheels that you saw at York haven't been polished since last summer, just water and an absorber to keep them fresh.

Did find a product at Lou'ville a couple of years ago called Master Formula. Don't know if it is still around buy it really cleans up musty old aluminum. Little bit of elbow use provides a mirror finish on aluminum parts.

People that know me, know I have a shiny stuff affliction. Billet and polished stainless everywhere. So, this comes from the been there, done that file. If you haven't tried Mother's Powerball yet, your polishing the hard way. $22. to $24., washable and reuseable. I need a half hour, the Powerball and portable drill and some Mother's Billet polish and me and my wheels are smilin again. You NEED a Powerball. Period.

And No,... Foose ain't a family member.

Somewhere in the archives of this site there is a long discussion all about polishing aluminum and other metals as well as chromed parts. One of the guys had a web site to go to for all kinds of detailed info on the subject but I don't remember what the web address was, but it was very good info and one of the things I remember reading on that site was a very long involved report about what NOT to use on aluminum. Many polishes, waxes, and cleaners contain anhydrous or some derivative of anhydrous amonia that will over time ruin aluminum,so always take time to read the label on your car care products. There was a ton of other info on the site about metal and paint care and it was some of the most interesting reading I've found. They sold metal polishes etc. but the info was not a sales pitch for the stuff they sold. If anyone remembers the web site put it up here for all to go to. Thanks for the time.

p.s. Where can I find the new "Power Ball"?

Guys- as much as i would like to go back and forth with this discussion, i just will not have time today. I will, however, add a couple comments to this discussion.

If one were to use our Zoopshine metal polish prior to application of ZoopSeal, a much brighter appearance will be the result. Although we have not extensively advertised our Zoopseal CAR CARE PRODUCT LINE, They are of the best quality and offer the best ease of use one could hope for. The Zoopshine metal polish is VERY easy to use and requires a minimum of rubbing. The Diamond Luster car wax has a super high content of carnauba wax, that our formulator actually grinds up, and is without a doubt the best polish i have ever tried. OK, i'm partial, obviously, but i'm an old dude that has tried everything out there already and i don't like to work hard anymore. This Zoopseal car care line has been formulated per my requirements. Read some of the comments on our website from people that have tried the stuff-heck we even supply the Metal Polish and Diamond Luster to the Riverside California Fire Department. They love it for their diamond plate which if too much reubbing is required to polish, it tears up their rags and fingers.

So take it for what its worth, but our ZoopSeal car care line is way above the current brands on the market.

Thank you all for your time--

I got my PowerBall from O'Riley's here in Louisiana. It was cheaper than either Summit's or Mother's home. I walked in, found it, paid for it and walked out. It does a great job and , as others have said, quickly.

Blksheep, I had been looking for a power ball but no one in my area carried them. I saw them at the York Nats for $25, but was surprised to see that they were made from sponge foam. Lots of little sponge fingers to do the cleaning. I was concerned about the abiltiy of the sponge to hold up under working conditions, seems like the stuff would tear or disintegrate easily. How is it holding up for you???? I still like the concept, and may try it if you have had a good experience.

I have had the Mothers Powerball for bout 2 months. It's been washed a couple of times and well used. It's holding up very well and continues to make short work of a dreadfull job. Just go buy one. I promise, you will be amazed at how well it works. Remember, the quality of your efforts depend on the quality of your polish. Mothers works for me.

My brother bought me a set of Polished Alum. wheels for my 34 last year, The first time I got them wet I was sick to say the least, and wore out from tring to get the spots out. Got the Mothers Powerball and Wax from Summit and they look new again without the soreness in my hands and arms. "I'm Sold" I did see the same powerball at Auto Zone about $5.00 cheaper than Summit.

Is Wenol blue for keeping the finish nice? I just had all my aluminum polished and the polisher said to put a coat of Wenol blue on it.... I was considering clear coating like my March pulleys are... has anyone tried that?
