I saw an article on just that inthe Feb. 2005 issue of " Street Rod Builder " Titled; Stiop the draft-anti-warm air pedal seals. It was a one page article written by Lane Anderson. It took place at Larry Rhodes' Rhodes Custom Auto Works in Toensend,Del.What they did was cut a hole in the floor board were the pedal goes thru with a hole saw.Next cut out a cardbord template with a 3/8" overlap.Next cut out a disc from this template from 1/8' steel.Cut a slot in it for the pedal shaft. This wil be positioned on the pedal shaft and welded to the pedal shaft under neath the floorboard/lower firewal.Leave a gap between the floor board and the disc before you weld for a peice of foam rubber to make the actual seal. Now on the inside of the floorboard cut a 1/16" peice of sheet rubber with a slit cut in it for the peal shaft and glue it to the inside floorboard. If you are going to look for the issue,it has a picture of Chuck Lombardo's blue 34 chevy Bonneville car on the cover.I realize that the pro's on this site have their own trick ways of doing this that mite even be simpleier and easier.I hope this helps.
I tried to scan pictures of the Watson's piece but to no avail !! I'll take some digital pics tommorrow and post them here. Its a neat part that not only looks good, but actually works.
Red represents brake-pedal and arm. Light blue represents truck floor. Dark blue represents big steel washer welded to brake pedal arm (when pedal is "at rest" position). Yellow represents peice of "closed cell" foam rubber, glued to washer.
I copied the idea in the article with a slight mod- I welded two tabs to the disc that allow me to move it up and down on the pedal.I had a big ol washer that worked perfectly after grinding the hole into an oval then sharpened the corners with a flat file. Bill
I haven't been on the hotrod websites so much this summer. I've been attending a lot of rod runs localy with the roadster pickup, and my wife and I were in California, Nevada, and Arizona for a 3 week vacation (flew down, rented a car there). I haven't been actually building anything this past year, so don't have a lot to post about.---Brian
here are a couple of pictures of the part I told you about. it is about 2 1/2 in around with a 5/8 by 1 1/8 slot fot the pedal to move thru. comes with ss screws and sealer gasket, is machined slpit and pinned for perfect alignment. neat piece cost - $20 each From Watson's ( we stock them)
we stock a product made by Watson's Street werks that is a split alum oval with a rubber gasket in an oval slot. works great, looks great and cost @$20 each
