Pertronix Igniter II Wiring

Me again. I just chucked my points and installed the Pertronix II igniter in my distributor. The Pertronix is a two wire system, one red and one black. The black wire is wired to (-) on the coil and the Red wire is supposed to be wired to the ignition side of the ballast resistor if in fact you have a ballast resistor. Apparently, if you don't have a ballast resistor, you can run the red wire to the (+) on the coil. I DO have a ballast resistor and was just about to connect the red wire to the ignition side of the resistor when I ran across a post on a 4-wheeler web site that said you can connect the red wire directly to the coil and bypass the resister if you have the Pertronix 1.5 ohm Flame Thrower Coil (which I do). This post claimed that the Flame Thrower Coil has an internal ballast resister. I called the Pertronix tech line and they told me that it does not have an internal resister but I could probably bypass the resister and wire direct to the coil anyway (Since my application was on a V8). Now I'm second quessing myself. I don't know if I should connect the red wire direct to the new Flame Thrower coil and bypass the resister or wire to the igniter side of the ballast resister. Anyone had any experience with this retrofit? |
