How about powder coating ? Looks good without the polishing.

If you want to paint it, I find it easier to start with a polished one, That way the hard work is done

the temperature of the alternator will depend on how hard it's charging ! The chrome gets my vote. We stock them as do most parts shops, but just a word of caution. They are NOT all equal. Stay away from the cheaper 'rebuilt' units. They are just that, cheap ! A quality unit of 100 amps, one wire will sell for $99-140 each depending on the vendor. We sell ours, which are all new parts, for $105

Right on Ron. You get what you pay for, and with electrical stuff it makes no sense to scrimp.

powder coating will look just like what you cover, If it`s not sanded and debured casting lines removed, you will see it just like anything else.

Of course we all put what we like on our cars, but two winters ago I sprung for a Tuff Stuff water pump and alternator. They are both chrome and impressive. I like the clean look of the water pump without the plug on top. I don't think it takes too much effort to clean the chrome.

Used to have an alternator painted to match my car and engine. Moved up to a 100 amp chrome power master. Pretty but needs constant cleaning and polishing. Thinking about going back to the matching paint unit. At least it was different.
