I am thinking about putting a Radiator shroud on my 39 Chevy.I am currently using a Harrison Rad that has been professionally rebuilt and wanted to know if any one has been down this road. I have a 2004 chevy crate 350 that runs great just wants to climb to 210 degrees alot I have been told that the shroud will help.

I want to thank you all for your help and suggestions that is why I love this site. I have successfully installed the Walker shroud and it runs great. although I do need to make the opening a little larger yesterday I punched it from a stop and the fan hit the shroud a little(barely it seems but a loud scary sound) scared me at first but no dammage to anything.

running 170 is a sign of running fat. this will wash down your cyclinders causing premature ring failure. todays gas just does'nt burn well at low temp.

A shroud is not the cure for cooling, but it is needed, If you contact Walker, "be sure" to compare prices before making any puchases. They can be quite costly when compared to others!!

Cooling is a combination of many things, a shroud being one of them, another is a high quality electric fan such as a Spal. Don't believe all that BS about products like Water Wetter they are a waste of money. I've also been exremely happy with Walker radiators as I've had 8-10 of them. Read an article that said copper radiators disapate heat better the aluminum radiators. Of course if weight is an issue I'd go with aluminum. I've also utilized a Griffin aluminum radiator and was also satisfied. I also think 210 is a little on the high side as I feel better in the 185-190 range.

you got it gman. not one of these things mentioned will work. it takes all of them. your putting 300 hp in a hole designed to house 75. there just is'nt enough room for air circulation. good rad, good fan, shroud, and a proper tune is the only cure. but i still run 195 on the hwy and around 205 to 210 in traffic. one thing to remeber is if your running a fat tune your blow torching the headers. lot of heat. it takes all the above to make it work. i work in texas guys and it just dont get much worse than august in cental texas.

Good cooling consists of a number of factors, and shrouds are not the answer to all heating problems, buy if yours is otherwise running good, a shroud will definitely help with the cooling. And 210, ain't high.

when installing the new shroud, space the fan where two thirds of it is inside the shroud, No more and no less, This is very important to the in getting Max air flow and it`s always over looked.

A fan shroud has to be effective and not just a piece of sheet metal in a ring. The propper shroud should fit close to the fan blades in order to cause suction to pull air through at low speeds. It should cover the entire core and funnel to the fan. It really shouldn't matter who makes it as long as it does the job. Make it your self if you are good with metal.-Brant

I know the way I sound, it seams that I don’t like Walker. Well Walker has good products and yes they do have nice shrouds, I use them all the time. What I don’t like is that Walker it extremely to high compared to other suppliers and distributors for equal products. I could go into much more details and examples but I think it would be a waste of my breath. For the amount of available advertising that they have, I can’t compare. But if anyone asks, I’ll freely give my opinion & my experiences.

210's not hot for a small block. you have to run 200 to burn todays gas. run 170 and you'll be doing rings soon.

Vintage Air, They have a good selection, and you can also get them in blanks. I use them all the time. I get much better pricing than what Walker will give me.

I had what I thought was a hot running engine also. After a high volume water pump didn't solve the problem I put a mechanical temp guage on to check the accuracy of the one in the car. The cars guage was off by 20 degrees. Had the manufacturer recalibrate the guage and problem solved.

sorry but i have had nothing but bad exsperence with walker here in texas. i've changed out many because they ran hot at idle. they may have changed but in my opinon they were too thick to get air thru at idle. i've had better luck recoring stock radiators and at a third of the cost. but then that just my opinon . i recore or use aluminum .
