Is there an advantage to the short vs long water pumps and are they interchangeable. I just bought a crate engine and didn't realize that it came with a long water pump and all of my brackets are for the short pump. any ideas ?

Yep they interchange, I'd stick with the short myself. need all the room you can get.

Tom, they interchange but the pulleys align differently on all your accessories and crankshaft...if all your accessory brackets are for a short pump then get a short water pump.... otherwise the pump won't line up with the accessories...

Everybody's right on this one. Go with the short pum. Even then clearances can get pretty close.
