I always attend car shows with my 68 and whenever I arrive I have to clean up my valve covers and with the big block those suckers are warm!!! No matter where I drive they seem to cover themselves with a light film of dust. I also want to know how to clean up my aluminum intake to keep those valleys looking nice.

If it just dust, get one of those 12v vacs with the little hose and brush attatchment. Plugs into cig lighter hole. I got one for my Dad for his Pontoon boat and he loves it. Won't do much for oily stuff but it sounds like your parts are clean.

Great idea. I don't have a small vac but I might look into it. I wonder how that will look at the cruise- a little manic maybe??? :-)

Ok, Here's another one for ya, Get one of the little portable air tanks, put a air nozzle on it, keep it in the trunk and just blow off whatever, whenever.

Have you ever seen the trunk of a 68 Camaro....it would have to be a small tank. I think the vac is more likely. I also must admit that I haven't had alot of luck getting a good clean aluminum look on my intake and I think it could use some type of cleaning agent first. I have been told Simple Green and a little scrubbing works wonders.

Thanks for the response guys. I agree with Shine that I don't like going to beauty contests for me or the car but often at a cruise I need to cool the old girl off and it is nice to let them see that she is a big block after all. As for all Chevy's looking alike.....sounds like a Ford remark -Ha-Ha

Greased Lightning on the UNpainted and UNpolished aluminum pieces will restore new look. DONOT allow it to remain on painted parts for more than 30-45 seconds.

A fellow Classic Chevy Club member uses a common household furnice filter to catch bugs and dust on the way to an event. Spray the filter with K+N filter spray, allow to dry, then simply place it directly in front of the radiator/condenser while traveling and remove it when parked. Measure your radiator, a trip to wally world and your there.
