Does anyone know where I can purchase tap tubing. This is a heavy wall tubing pre-drilled so you can tap your own threads in it. It works great for putting tapped inserts in frames and it came in sizes from 1/4 to 3/4. When I was building drag cars in Wisconsin 20 years ago I could find it at some of the local circle track shops but I haven't been able to locate it here on the East coast. Thanks for your help.

They now make a nut insert that is installed with a special tool. They are available as a stud or a nut. Saves the time of cutting the threads. Also called A-T series nut inserts. There is also rivet nuts installed with a pop rivet type tool

Thanks for the info on the nut inserts, I am familar with them but unless I am looking in the wrong place they are fairly light duty and only go to 3/8 inch. Tap tubing is much heavier and you could get up to 3/4 " diameter. Also once you welded it into the chassis you could grind it smooth so no flange was sticking above the surface. It worked great for shock mts. etc.

I have seen them in a 1/2 - 13 steel and 3/8- 16 in aluminum. Would a Round Mechanical Carbon Steel Tubing work? It is made as small as 1/8" O.D. up to 1'' + O.D.
