Been haveing trouble starting my coupe, turn the key and it's dead, move the shifter a little and contact the car starts. I removed the floor cover on the inside and put an ohms meter across the neutral safety and get nothing, then move the shifter a little and get my short. Anyway to adjust this? Never had a problem before this just started happening, it's a Lokar shifter on a 350 trans. This is a new switch and still haveing a problem, last nite I had to bypass the switch to get it started. The same thing happens in neutral too. Hope the picture comes out and is of some help, thanks.

There is an adjustment to this switch, by loosening the buttonhead screw just under the switch you can move the plate forward or back to center the roller ball of the switch on the raised portion of the shifter handle....note the cut out areas or notches on the handle where the switch rides. Put the car in park and then move the switch plate so it centered on the handle high point.

I had the same problem on my roadster and I wrote to Lokar and they sent me the instructions for adjusting the neutral switch and a "Aluminum Adjuster Plug" that needs to be installed in place of the neutral safety switch during adjustment. If you write to or e-mail Lokar they will send you the instructions.

I went through this when I built the roadster pickup----the only sure fix ended up being to install spacer washers (shims) under the switch body to space it out a bit from the part it screws into. This involved a lot of screwing around to find the thickness of washer that was correct (I made multiple washers out of thin shimstock untill I dialed in the correct amount of shimming). That fixed it.
