There is a difference in filters, which one filters the most particles or smallest seems to be the best, however I have found that if you change your oil regularly you don't use the majority of your filters capabilities anyway.
I also have found that synthetic oil finds ways out of my engine easier than the old convetional stuff.(leaks more)

Mobil 1 etc sure can find its way out easier. Re. filters, I have a friend who changes his oil almost as often as he fills his tank. Every car he has, has CLEAN oil, it never gets close to dirty. They also run good and last a long time. He makes me feel so guilty, but I get over it. I change about every 2 1/2 K.
Oh yeah, I was going to say, he'd NEVER get a clogged filter.
I'm X38 on any other sites.

I can't remember the number but years ago there was a Chevy truck filter that was a double length filter. Although if you change your oil at regular intervals, I don't think it matters.
The large oil filter is for a big block Chevy truck. It is nearly twice as tall as a stock filter. Back when i was running oval track cars i bought them at NAPA. Oil is filtered through folded paper. The Fram filters have about one half the square footage of paper that other filters do. Less area means less places to catch dirt. After it is full your bypass valves opens and you are no longer filtering your oil. You will still get plenty of oil to the pump but it just wont be filtered. This happens every day when you start up cold and drive off. Cold oil wont go through the paper. NASCAR racers have electric blankets around their oil pan and never start up unless the oil is hot.
Hey thanks, I will try that. Our NAPA dealer is never open when I am available. I do know that CarQuest has better hours. I may cut open the filter when I tear the engine apart and just check out what it has been catching.

I loved the Wix brand filters but cannot find them around here anymore. I have been using Fram but they don't have as big of a filter as the Wix for my car. The Wix has one that was listed for a V8 truck and it was a monster. I used it in the Camaro for years. I have switched to Fram (and I have seen them cut in half) and have not had any trouble. However I change the oil every 3000 miles or so.

Remember some years back there was an adapter that would use a roll of toilet paper in place of a filter? I got some feedback from somewhere that they didn't work because the backpressure would open the relief and unfiltered oil would be going back into the engine. Sounds reasonable. Would a filter with lots more filtering material cause backpressure too? They must have thought of this.

I agree with kieth 83. Cut apart a fram and you'll be amazed how little filteration material they is compared to others. I've been using Wix for years, after I saw the differance. Good luck
I use Mobil 1 with standard filters in my daily driver and am not convinced that going to Mobil 1 sym filters will do anything more other than drain my wallet. I don't run Mobil 1 in either of my oldies, don't need more leaking.
Here's a good one fer ya...I got a new Chevy truck back around Thanksgiving last year. Being retired and living close to a golf course I don't put very many miles on it. At about 2.5K I called to schedule an oil change but they told me to wait until the "change oil" lite comes on. I waited...and waited...and waited 6K and no light! I'm worried because this is a new engine. Further checking and here is what I found out. The computer (hello Shine) stores the engine hours, total RPM and driving habits then computes when the oil starts to loose its effectiveness, then turns on the light. Reverse engineer this and it seems that changing oil to often may be harmful to the engine because the oil is not reaching it's design operating specs. Don't know for sure.

Willys....isn't GM the ones that said( in the 70's ) that you can run 7500 between oil changes? I like computers (sorry shine), however at 3000, you need to at least change the filter & add oil. Newer engines run so much cleaner, however, the aditive package is what drops out of the oil.
On the subject of filters, as has been mentiones, cut a fram apart, & compare it to about any other brand. You will NOT use a fram again. For me, it's Wix / Napa filters & Royal Purple oil
just my .02

O.K. maybe I am stupid but why change the style of filter. I used synthetic and the PH30 together and never had a problem.

I agree with Tammy, why would you want to spend all that money for a Mobil 1 filter? Aren't they about $10? I've used Mobil 1 for years with AC oil filters.
Willlys, got the same little oil computer on my GM car. I get tired of waiting for it and change about every 5K miles. Most of my driving is hiway, about 22k/year. They tell me every 7500 is okay, but I feel more comfortable at every 5k even with Mobil 1.
