My son just finished adding an additional 3 car garage. He has 2 muscle cars 1 complete and 1 a work in progress, dosen't do body work or paint, but is mechanical. My question is floor covering, he's leaning towards an epoxy paint to make it easier on clean ups. Any advice, Thanks, Bob.

I found a good product that gave me many different options to customize my floor the way I wanted. You can view their site at http://www.originalcolorchips.com/ or http://www.floorchips.com/ It has held up great for me.

You also can view some photos if you go to this address http://www.originalcolorchips.com/photogallery.html.

Good luck with your project!

Ii used Castrol Super Clean at almost full strength to clean the floor. The tiles stick really good - so good infact that if I damage one I have to use a propane torch to heat it up and a paint scrapper to scrape it off.

My concrete floor was slippery so the tiles are not much different.

I had a big piece of carpet in front of my bench for ages , not by plan, just left it there while doing something else and it stayed. Was real good til it got too full of crud and got tossed.

Team, Did you have to do anything special to the floor other than clean it real good before you put the tiles down? Any kind of sealer or anything?

Yeah, be careful of slippery floors. An old friend of the family had a nice garage floor years ago. He slipped on the wet floor. Broke his hip, then he died of a heart attack in the hospital. Morbid, but wouldn't want it to happen to someone else.

There is an anti-slip coating that is available at your local Sherwin Williams store that is said to be the same cost as ordinary floor paint. I have not used it just read an article about it over the wekend. It is made by American Safety Technologies Inc. It is has been used by theU.S. Navy on carrier decks.

I have had the ucoat it floor in my garage for almost 4 years. it is holding up excellent with just a little gloss wear around my workbench area where I do a lot of grinding and welding. I put their gloss top coat on my floor and it does get a little slick when wet.

I put down the black & white peel & stick ones from Home Depot. These have been on my floor for 4 1/2 years and been through two engine changes for the Chevelle, trans swap, front end rebuild, and many other types of mechanical tortures.

I have rolled engine stands and engine pickers around and it hasn't torn up any of them. I did have top replace a few when the jack moved back letting the car down and the wheel wouldn't rotate but that was easy - just pull up the munched one and replace it. That the real beauty of these squares - if you munch one you just replace the one that's damaged.

I mop the floor with some diluted Super Clean a couple of times a year and it looks great.

Bob I just put down a u-coat it floor in december at work. So far it's been great. Easy to clean, not effected by brake fluid, you can walk on it when it's wet without slipping and it looks good. Check out their web site. u-coatit.com

Thanks for the feedback, the u-coat-it sounds and looks like a nice product. Always nice to come here for advice, it makes those decisions a lot easier. My "kid" he's 38 has some odd stuff he's saved over the years and plans on mounting on the walls when the garage is finished. One item is an old oil can display that he backed over at a gas station when he was learning how to drive and his "customized" dash from a 62 chevy that looks like somthing from a Buck Rodgers movie. When he gets them up I'll post some pictures. What's some of the weirdest stuff hanging on your garage walls??

I got the wrench off of eBay for $9. It turned out the guy who made them lived 2 blocks from me. He has moved since then. You might try eBay and see if he is still on there.

I got the 39 from a guy in Texas. It was built by Jack Ellison at North Texas Rod & Customs. I didn't want to buy a local one because all I'd hear at shows and cruises is " Hey, that's Bob's old car !" This way no one out here has ever seen it and it is unique being a Phantom 39 with a split window in the back instead of a 37. As far as I know there were only 3 of these bodies made and 1 is in pieces in Tulsa - the other one is MIA.

One thing you may want to concider is how slippery a new surface is. I had a broom finish put on my garage floor. It's a little harder to clean and the creeper doesn't run too smooth but I have not slipped once on the floor. A little oil or water or other liquid and you will look like Homer Simpson 'till you hit the back wall.

I got tired of standing on cold concrete so I carpeted my garage every place except under the cars. Carpet came from the house as new carpet was installed. When it gets to soiled out it goes. If I need to make a big mess, I move the car outside. Creeper rolls just find on the carpet. Like the plasiic tiles seen in California Car Cover ads but just too damn expensive for my needs.
