 DRIVE'EM!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone ever attached a louvered exterior metal skin to a glass trunk lid? I want to do this to get the louvered Bonneville look. I realize the expansion rate between the metal and glass are different. Should the metal skin be attached with some type of mechanical fastener (Pop Rivets, or ) ? To allow the skin to move slightly to compensate for the different expansion rates when cooled or heated by the sun. Let me know your thoughts.

DA 34 GUY, Don What do you think of this idea? Would I be better to put a complete steel deck lid on my 32 Roadster? Help me out guys. This is new territory for me. Thanks

I have also thought about this problem and I think there is only one way to go and that is with a steel lid. Elsewhere here there is a nice article on how to build a deck lid. Punching louvers in 'glass isn't working for me and I don't think I'll ever perfect it. If I do you will see louvers in my windshield!

Den--- If yer gonna do it do a complete deck lid, spendy but ya won't wory about seperation down the road. Why ya throwin more $$ at the white roadster? Drive it and enjoy it the way it is, I think your goin in the wrong direction for the B-Ville look., Yer gonna have to change more than the lid to acheive the rite look.

Thanks Guys. You are correct it would not go with the current look of the car without a lot of additional modifications.Have a good day. Did you all get lots of candy last nite?

Don, Maybe you are right. I would have to change too many things to get that total look. It was just a thought. Always have to change something to make it your own. Thanks Guys.

Den Drive Em, I will try and drive my car topless until it snows, then put it away for the year.

Hey Den, Don's right as usual. I'd only consider louvering the deck lid if it was the last piece of the car that wasn't already full of louvers, know what I mean? I'm talkin' hood top and sides plus belly pan.

You've got a street rod, I don't know that a louvered deck lid would look right on the car the way it is without some other serious modifications. You know, strip the interior bare, racing tires, full moons, straight exhaust, roll bar, parachute...

I agree with Shine. Louvers look great on retro cars, but our '37 Chevy coupe, which we drive a lot has a louvered hood. One little rain shower and it's hours of cleaning.
