I looked in the advertisers and searched for insurance companies. My insurance is due on my 32 Ford Sedan and I am presently with Haggerty. Can anyone give me the lowdown on the Midwest Classic that advertises here? I would like to know if they are a good company and am I going to have any problems if, God Forbid, I have a claim. The price that I was quoted is significantly less than I am paying now. They were around $350 and I am paying close to $600. Of course we have to make sure the deductibles, limits, and all the other stuff are the same. Any word on Midwest Classic?

I am now with Midwest Classics and was previously with Hagerty for 5 years. Hagerty is a good company with good coverages, but Midwest was able to offer me the nearly the same coverage for $200 less. Since I have two cars and one gets used a lot less than the other I could not see paying maximun rates for both. So I switched. That simple. Plus, just the fact that they support this site, shows they have wisdom.

rodsnhawgs,

I just read what you had on the site about your regular car insurance doing things cheaper. The real question you have to ask is cheaper better. I can pretty much tell you while insuring Street Rods or other collectible cars unless you are with a collectible market you will find out, if you have a loss, you may not have coverage. You said they have Agreed Value coverage. To be honest I have never seen a regular car company with this coverage in my 27 years in the business. I would love to find out the name of the Company. Be sure the agent realizes there is a huge difference between Agreed & Stated. Many agents don't know there is. The other thing you have to watch is Customization coverage. Agreed Value coverage is a must for collector cars. If your company has your car on Stated Amount you are at their mercy in the event of a total loss. The other thing is many agents and their employees do not realize that a 1932 Ford did not have a 350 Chevy motor in it. This is called customization and there is an exclusion under many of the policies for this. Never heard of a 300 day limit clause, how do they monitor this, sounds strange to me.

Hey I am not telling you your Company is bad but be sure what you are getting is what you really want. We insure $30,000 Street Rods daily for about $300 a year. I don't know too many regular insurance companies that will touch that. If you have any questions give me a call and I would be glad to discuss coverage with you, even if we do not write your insurance. Better safe than sorry, after a loss is too late to find out you made a mistake. Good Luck.

Hey McDuff glad you looked us up on this site. Well to give you a little background on Midwest Classic Insurance I started this agency about 12 years ago, prior to that I worked for another agency for 15 years, so collectively I have been in the insurance business for 27 years. The reason I started Midwest Classic was a chance to do what I like best, work with people with restored vehicles, collectibles, classics, street rods, or whatever else you want to call them. I left the other agency as the owner told me the next time I wrote a collectible car he was going to fire me because the premiums were too low, so I said see ya!!

We write coverage through Great American Insurance Company that has been in business for over 175 years. They were one of the original companies in the collector car line. I talked with the VP of the company while we were working at Frog Follies about five years ago and told him I thought Street Rod rates were too high. When he saw how old "we" rodders were he agreed and the rates were lowered. In a nutshell we charge $10 per $1,000 value and Hagerty charges $14. The liability premium from each of us is about the same.

Not only do we write coverage for collector cars we kind of live it. About four years ago I bought a 60 year old movie theater and turned it into my office. The back of the building I turned into a five car garage including a Backyard Buddy lift. We then decided to build a house inside and will finish that in a couple of months. This is like a rodder's dream come true. My office in the front, my house in the middle and enough room in the back, now, for 10 cars.

Well enough of that. If you are at Frog Follies in about a month we will be there with my 48 Chevy, if you don't make it there give us a call or stop off in Auburn, IL sometime. We love to have visitors and show them around the place. Check out our website for more information, it is not your normal insurance website. www.midwestclassicins.com

Thanks for thinking of us.

Robbin Terry

We have a few pictures on the website. If you go to the homepage and click on the ticket booth there are a few there. I do need to add more photos to the site as we get things done. Hopefully this weekend we will have a few more things done and I can shoot them. I have two favorite rooms, the theater room where we have seating for 31 people during cruise nights to watch old movies on a 7x10 screen and the other is my 50-60's room where we took 530 45 rpm records and put them on the ceiling.

I will try and get some new photos this weekend. We have had a lot of people wanting to see what we are doing. The project has been like building a street rod, long and expensive but hopefully like street rods, rewarding in the end. (if that ever comes).

Hope to talk with you soon.

I was (pleasantly) surprised to find my regular insurance company would underwrite my street rod cheaper than any of the specialty companies. I guess because I have my homeowners and my regular vehicles covered they would talk about it. Turns out they have the same coverage, agreed upon value, unlimited mileage, etc. Only restriction is I can't drive it more than 300 days/year. Might be worth checking into....

Grundy told me they dont cover cars that are used for errands like going to the store etc. I asked what they did cover..very picky.

McDuff, I was with Haggerty for two years and have been with Grundy for three now. I have a 40 Ford & a 47 Chevy-agreed value of $34M & $19M with unlimited mileage and NO deductable and a annual premium of $310.00 (1/2 of Haggerty's premium). I have a friend whose rod was totalled, but was not at fault and Grundy paid him the agreed value in seven days, then dealt with the other insurance company. I think they're great. You may check them out.

I have Midwest--have had no claims(thank God). I had Haggerty for more money and switched to Midwest. Have 2 cars with them for $460.00 a year. Only thing I don't like is the mileage limitations. I am pretty sure rates vary from state to state.
