Just wondering what Leon,Shine and the rest of the Pro Builders and painters tell their customers about taking care of the great paint jobs on the new Rods and Customs they have jst turned over to their customers.Any deatailing ticks ? Any products or brand names that you like or ones to stay a way from ? When I was a teenager I use to think it was great car wax.Hey,what wax did you use ? That was before I found out about Blocking, color snding and rubbing out the paint job. Thanks. Al C.

When I was at the NSRA event in Springfield, MO in May, I went to the Mothers booth and purchased the mini-ball because I could not find it locally. Stores had the larger one, but not the mini. Got back home and went in to my local O'Reilly Auto and found the mini for $3 less than what I paid in Springfield! I have not tried it yet.

I only wax before long road trips, For polishing I use 3M compound and glazes and Maguiers Glod wax, and if it`s "showtime", Maguiers also makes a very sweet smelling Quick glaze, works great, and the smell in an indoor event attracts people asking what it is. If I must do aluminum I use Mothers and lots of rubbing, For paint as well as aluminum always use very soft clean rags. As for tire, there are several sprayon that you just leave on, I put that on a rag to avoid overspray, Always clean the tires well first. My two biggest peeves are Glass and the back side areas of the rims, When those two thing are clean, It can even make a dirty car look good,

Guys, Adams polishes (supporter of the site) sells the Flitz Polishing ball and I bet Adam can get it to you pronto. He also sells some great stuff to detail your car with. The great folks at Slick Stixxx have a great product to clean up the tight spots and he is looking for dealers for those of you interested.- sorry not trying to sound like an ad but I have seen both these products working and think they look handy.

i use 100% pure canuba wax from mothers. it's all i've used for years. the main thing i tell customers is to go home and throw away their chamis cloths and all the damn towles. one piece of grit under a chamis and you'll destroy a paint job. rinse with your hand first to get rid of dirt and grit. then polish with a NEW diaper. using an old polish cloth is crazy. it's full of grit. i use old tshirts that i keep in bags.

i know about all the new wonder products being hyped in magazines but most are just hype. i stick with what works, not whats popular. good luck.

I noticed that NASCAR cars use some type of clear skin on the windshield, so instead of cleaning, they just tear off a layer. Does anyone make something of the same material that could be used on the front of a vehicle instead of a vinyl bra? Might be nice to have after a long trip. Pull in, pull off the clear skin, and go party.

I use Meguires Showcar Glaze only. Never wax my streetrods. On my daily drivers I use Meguires Showcar Glaze followed by their wax or Mothers. All of the quickies on the market contain silicone which is not good for you paint.

alchevy, I bought both of them and they really do the trick. The little one gets in places that humans shouldn't even go. Work well and clean up easy. Hope yours works well for you too.

By the way, I use mine with my Adams two step polish and boy does that work fantastic. Try it out - you will be back in the hammock before you know it sippin a cool one.

I gotta tell you about me and polishing. I love the out come, I hate the process, I mean I really hate the process. So, I bought the new Mothers Powerball you have seen advertised. This is the greatest polishing short cut I have ever seen. I sat down with the Powerball and a jar of Mothers Billet Polish and brought my 4, 18" B.S. wheels to a show time shine in less that 20 minutes. Once again, life is good........

i use the canuba wax because it makes them shine and smell good. it also makes clean up a breeze. bugs and stuff come right off. unlike many i enjoy waxing a car but i've learned to do on panel at a time. i dont try to do the whole car at once. start on one fender and just work around it. i have a customer or two that dont like to wax their car. i tell them to sell it and get a rat rod.

Blksheep,I have been thinking of buying a Powerball. Is there any problem with splater ? Any particular drill speed ? It usually take me at least 3 hours per wheel wiyh Mothers Billet and Micro fiber polishing cloths. The results are great. When Mothers Billet first came out I spent alot of time on they wheels and the rodder that parked next to me at Macungie asked if I had the wheels crome plated ,Thanks. Thanks,Shine. Now it's only a matter of finding a place locally that sells it.I looked a Peps the other day but no luck. Our two local chains where sold to national chains. So it's Peps { Pep Boys } Advanced and Auto Zone. The few traditional old auto parts stores are few and far between. The national chains seem to have the most choice.

Like Shine mentioned, apply the polish (Mothers Billet polish) to about a third of the wheel, polish that area and move to the next third. I usually smire an area with my finger and work the Powerball into the smired area. This keep the splatter down and the results are excellent. I have only polished each wheel once, however, I'm sure the more you polish, the brighter the finish. With the finish you now have, a quick buff up will take you about 10-15 minutes. By the way, www.summitracing.com is where I got my PowerBall.

mlp2, Thanks for the links. This product appears to be a more permanent solution, however, they say it can be easily installed AND removed, but their FAQs and web pages don't elaborate and I can't (won't) view their Real Media (spyware) video. I emailed them asking for a disposable solution. If I find out anything, I'll share here. Maybe I should just try some Saran wrap?

kyhotrod, it seems like someone did come out with a clear skin you can put on the front of a car not long ago. Maybe it was by 3M company. It wasn't that long ago, I meant to remember it. Im always writing reminders to myself. But most of the time I can't find the reminders!! As I remember, it could be peeled off and reused and not dull your paint. It sounded good, then I forgot about it.

more, I know this wouldn't be environmentally friendly, but I was thinking that this clear "skin"/"bra" would be a throwaway item. No need to clean up bugs and road grime from the front of the vehicle, just peel it off, discard, and off you go cruising. It would be nice if this was super thin and biodegradable, and maybe come say a dozen to a box. From what I've seen of vinyl car bras, they're about the same effort to clean as just cleaning the front of the vehicle with some bug remover, plus you have to store the bra somewhere.

On my 57 I use a product called Satin Gloss, great product, hard to fine. On the 34 I have switched to Mequiars. There are a lot of products out there some very expensive, but few better.

I my self, use 1 grand blitz wax. I use it on my 55 chevy show car and it really brings out the shine. You cannot buy it in a retail store, only on line.

Reading all of this I remembered a product called Clear Bra. Sounds kinky, don't it?

Go to www.clearbra.com (not a porn site) and check it out. I don't know if this is the stuff that you can re-apply like spoken of here, but my local Auto-Trim dealer was pushing it for a few years. Most people swear by it.

My first question was, "Does UV light make it yellow?" They said it had some kind of guarantee that seemed to satisfy my curiosity. The thing that really impressed me is that you could BARELY see the edges of the film. I mean you had to look REALLY hard to see them!

I'll save you all some trouble. If you're looking for vintage "kits" then just get something called a "universal kit". You cut it yourself. I'm thinking that the founder of the product was queer for Porsche because from 1950 through 1982 that's all that's available. In 1983 there become more makes and models.

I've tried just about every new cleaners/polish that comes down the pike and I have found that the bottom line is...there is no shortcut! Look at the above pros and what they are telling us is that there is nothing that smears on and polishes itself off. Every once in a while I use 3M hand glaze. It removes all the ground in dirt and wax buildup. The waxing after that goes on easy and comes polishes out easy. Wax on-wax off!!

a GOOD coat of canuba wax is just as good. bugs dont stick nor doe road grime and such, i have had customers that did not want to have to wax their cars. if you dont enjoy taking care of a nice paint job build a rat rod and wash it with boraxso or comet. i dont run bras on my cars. i would just as soon have chips as run one of the ugly things but i'm a painter so i just brush touch them and go on.theres an old saying...............aint got no pride....dont need no ride.
