An update from the Detroit Free Press on line.John Delorean died late Saturday at Overlook Hospital in Summit N.J. at age 80.He suffered a stroke late Thursday at his home in Bedminster N.J.A public viewing will be held Wednesday at Royal oak Mich.He will be buried at White Chapel Cemetery,Troy Mich.I was surprised with his checkered past that GM's Rick Wagoner gave a statement.
John De Lorean was a genuis car designer. Unfortunately, desperation drives a many a good man to do things out of character. He was trying to save his company through desperate means and became a target for those who dispised him because of it. Not may of us will pass through life with out sin. I hope that he has a better life on the other side.
I was sneaking into work "late" at Chevrolet Central Office in the Argonaut building in Detroit in 1969 or 70 and who gets in the elevator with me.... that's right Jon Z.... at first I didn't know who he was BUT I knew from his suit and the 60 year old guy with him carrying two huge leather bags that he was SOMEBODY.... then I saw the JZD on his briefcase.... he was one of the most impressive men I have ever seen.... he commanded attention without saying a word... there were stories about him taking cars right off the assembly line and leaving them in the middle of the street somewhere in Detroit (because they had a problem) and some executive VP was running all over Detroit looking for it (wouldn't tell him where it was).....
Big Al sittin back pickin & grinning in paradise.
