I have a 32 Ford Vicky Downs glass on a TCI frame, Today I purchased a set of QA1 coilovers and the dealer sold me two 10" 200# springs. I just roadtested and I have only 1&1/4 in. of shock rod showing and needless to say the shock bottoms out in the driveway. The spec sheet states I need 12" springs. Question?? Do I stay with the 200 lb springs or go to a stronger spring two inches longer? I'm not sure of the weight on the rear axle but the battery and 16 gal. gas tank are back there and I do run a stock bumper. Thanks Lyled

If you want an honest and accurate answer to what size and rate coilover you need contact Aldan Eagle Coilovers. They will shoot you straight and they stand behind their stuff.

lyled, I had exactly the same combination 32 Downs Vicky and TCI stage 3 chassis. I had rear 250# coilovers and car continuously bottomed out on dip's in the road especially around bridges. You could see where the rear axle was hitting the frame. I had the rear coilovers in the lower adjusting hole with no help. The problem is well known by TCI. What needs to be done is to C notch the rear frame above the axle, I don't know why they won't do it. Also had all kinds of problems with the power brakes. Be sure to check your brakes. Couldn't get the rear brakes to operate properly. This is also known by TCI who were no help in solving the problem. I wouldn't recommend anyone purchasing any TCI product as they provide no product support. I guess you already know that if you've contacted them.

Lyled,

Go to a truck stop and have the car weighted. Make sure you get front axle and back axle seperate. Then measure the angle of the coilovers at ride height. Call your shock specialist (QA1 or Aldin or ...) and give him all the info. I spent some bucks sending springs back until I got it right. Never seems to work on the first shot.
