I have two questions:

1. I am building a 1930 Ford Model A closed cab pickup streetrod. I have the frame finished (motor and trans not yet installed). It will have a '73 Camaro 350 V8 with TH350 trans, Ford 8" rear with coil over shocks and tri-angulated four bars, and front power disk brakes. It has a dropped I-Beam front axle and I am using the split wishbones.

The frame has the '32 style add-on frame horns and I have a '32 style steel gas tank. I have a Model A bumper like the front one except curved on the ends to mount on the rear. I need a measurement of how far out this brace extends (see drawing attached).

2. Since I am using the Ibeam front axle with no power steering, is it better to have narrower tires on the front than on the back?

Larry,

As far as the tires go, I like big 'n littles. The front will steer better with a smaller patch on the ground BUT the stopping power will be decreased somewhat. It's up to you to find a balance between looks and performance. I have seen several bumpers mounted in the stock position and there is room for a bale of hay between the bumper and the body (completly functional) and other bumpers mounted much closer than stock (looks). I like the close mount better than original. Again, It's in the eye of the beholder. No help here was I!

Larry.. I measured the bumper bracket on the rear of my 32 Vicky and the measurement from the center of the back hole to the face of the bracket that fits against the bumper is 8 inches. I have a set of brackets if you need them. lyledavid@mei.net
