I have a 1930 Model A pickup. I am not sure that I can salvage the old firewall. I have seen both metal and fiberglass firewalls for street rods. The fiberglass ones are almost half the price of steel ones. What are the pros and cons of fiberglass vs steel? Thanks.

key word is "fire"wall not melt wall

fiberglass provides no protection against fire, flying debris or anything else.

its quick, cheap and easy till you need a "fire"wall then watch out.

Just a thought... if the reason you don't think that the firewall can be saved is cosmetic, then take the firewall out, turn it around backwards, and re-install it. You can't use the stock cowl tank when doing this, but most street rodders don't anyway.

Doing this will give you a 4" recessed firewall too, which is why guys have been doing it for years.
