Well, my project is coming along slowly. Have arthritis in my hands, wrists, and elbows ... so ... it takes awhile. I figure I am about 50% done with body work. I have a question for the old pros. I would like to carry a spare tire, but do not really want to have it in the bed. Has anyone come up with a solution for this?

Thanks.

Are you running two(2) different size wheels as a typical rod ? You know.......15Rx14F or whatever. If you are then your sorta up a creek unless you want both size tires hidden somewhere in your truck bed. Is your truck bed shortened? If your running all the same size wheels, and your adamant about caring a spare, there may be a space under the rear of the bed like in most post 50 pickups.

How about a couple of cans of "Spare Tire" for $3, or $4 each can. ( I think that is what they call it ) I always carry a can in all of my cars even if they have a spare tire ( mostly because I am just plain lazy ) and when I do get a flat I just screw on the can, inflate the tire, and drive to a place that has air for my tire, because the cans are usually approx. 10 pounds short of filling the tire to the normal pressure. I then drive 10 miles for the sealant to work, and forget about it. Also don't forget to replace the can immediately, because if you don't you all know what will happen. I have a can in my T-bucket because there is no room at all anything but 2 people, I think they also make this stuff for tube tires also.

I got some of the same problems you have...arthritis. Find that using my hands working on the car is much better for them than pushing the buttons on the remote. I have found a solution to the spare tire thing...use a plastic spare! Because I have "big an littles" and different bolt patterns AND a posi unit, I couldn't carry just one spare. You would also have to carry a jack, wrench and so on. Get a memebership in AAA and let them worry about it. Get a flat and whip their card out and have them come and take it to be plugged. Cuts down on stuff you got to carry and heavens knows a '30 pickup does need more space. What do ya think?

I agree with Jerry. I had a car with big and littles and always carried the AAA card for road service. You can also use any of the other motor clubs such as Amoco, Sears, etc., but I've been an AAA member for 34 years and they haven't failed me yet. My car now has same size wheels, same bolt pattern front and back, but not tire sizes. Still no spare. Another option which I know people use, including street rod trucks is to get a small trailer to tow. Can hold more than your truck bed, is more secure, and can look sharp when painted to match your truck. Carry your tire, tools, chairs, tent, luggage, what have you. Also saves your nice well finished truck bed from scratches and other nasties.

I used to carry tire irons and a spare tube - nowdays I carry a tire plugging kit and an air bottle - don't need a jack or a lug nut wrench ! If you can't fix it with that I agree use AAA.
