I recently bought a 1930 Model A pickup. The previous owner canabalized a 1978 Olds Delta 88 so it has a 350 V8, TH350, power steering, and power disk brakes. The steering and suspension setup (including steering column and power steering box) is really kludgy so I have been considering replacing it. The power steering box hangs so low, that I scrape speed bumps. I have looked at all kinds of options from new frame and setup to IFS to dropped axle, etc.

You know when I look at the potential cost of buying all of these aftermarket parts and redoing my A, I am half temped to get myself a Chevy S10 or Ford Ranger and put the A body on it. Atleast then I would be up to date. What do you think about that option?

Larry, I have seen this new frame thing going on for some time but in VERY FEW cases have I ever seen one that works as well as the original/aftermarket frame. There are many issues with using a "modern" frame including wheelbase, contour, width, length, suspension hitting body...etc. The house will only be as good as the foundation. A Model A frame is easy to build and worth the effort in streetability and looks. Good luck

This is how I feel about a S-10, or other new car frames under a streetrod.

I just feel ( I hope I don't hurt your feelings )that a streetrod on a regular new car type frame is not a real streetrod, they just don't handle, or feel like a real streetrod, and it is in my opinion, a lazy persons way of doing things. If you want an antique type streetrod make it a real streetrod!

If you want a new car ride, buy a new car, but don't Mickey Mouse together a streetrod like that especially if it is an all metal car.

Do it right, and you will have something to be proud of, not shy away from.

Larry, I agree with the others on the frame change. Besides, 28-31 Fords just don't look good on another frame. A 30 Ford pickup doesn't need power steering! What about just changing out the steering box to a manual box? Would that clean things up enough for you? It certainly wouldn't be that expensive to do and less work too. The smaller Saginaw 605 box should bolt in right where your larger box is.
