Of course the stuff that you do sew, like carpet or making some welting, does require a stout machine. I went to a local flea market and searched for a non zig-zag, no frills old machine. Found a portable that weights a ton, has metal gears and will sew your finger to the material if you are not careful. Special features of the machine is forward and back...that's it! Price was $25.
