have any of you heard of a rear main seal on a small block chevy starting to leak after replacing a flexplate and torquing its bolts? I did not have a leak before but now I do. If I replace the rear main seal is it a good idea to check the torque on all the main caps while I have the pan off or should I leave them alone?

checked the back of the block for leaks while I had the flexplate off and everything was dry as a bone.No leak at the oil pressure sending unit or intake. now that I have the new flexplate and torque convertor in(was chasing a harmonic vibration) the inside of the bellhousing is sprayed with engine oil after about thirty miles of driving and drips down the dust cover and onto the floor.

Aside from the distinct color difference, Any chance it's tranny fluid? Maybe buggered the front seal going back together.

Can't say why it started to leak, but as for tightening any main bearing bolts---haven't you ever heard about "if it aint broke, don't fix it". You'll just give yourself grief.

before you condemn the rear main seal, check the oil pressure sending unit or fitting at the rear of the block, or even the back of the intake. May be just a coincindence, but you never know.
