I have purchased a couple of used cams back in my younger and poorer days and one came without the lifters. I installed new lifters and just was careful not to make the adjustment too tight until I felt the motor was broke in a little. That cam lasted a long time, of course it was a Crane (my favorite)

if the lifter is faulty can you replace it without being concerned about wiping a lobe of the cam? would you break it in like a new cam and lifter install?would you leave the rocker adjusted a little looser for a while? I am sure not wanting to replace the cam!
