Hey guys, I just "stole " a 1987 dodge shrt bed 4x4 with a 318 727 trans. Havent got it home yet. The people told me the timing chain jumped , But when I paid em last nite an got the title they told me that it starts but will only idle. 7 this mourning i remember i had a 1984 dodge , slant 6 with a spark control conputer-did the same thing Any body know if dodge still used the ssc in 1987? A little upfront advice may make me more resail profit. Thanks

Back to basics, TDC #1 pop the cap and see how close the rotor is to #1. One tooth = 12-18 degrees. Definately noticable if jumped. Also, line up timing marks at 0 and slowly turn crank while watching rotor. Stop turning crank when rotor starts to move. Look at balancer/timing marks, notice number from 0 if more that 4-6 degrees, chain is bad.

Yes they had similar computer controlled spark
