Watched the first day of the Barrett Jackson Auction from Palm Beach, FL. It certainly appears the Streetrod market is way down. Streetrods they had for auction had trouble busting 30K. Muscle cars and 50's resto mod's are where the money's at. A 58 Chevy Impala resto mod took the high dollar price tag at 107K.

Thats what I figured, I havent had one call on mine through the SR website. We all said that the rods are over priced and the demand isnt there, go figure!

I really don`t think the Street Rod market is down, I havn`t seen the Auction for FL yet, But I would excpect the reason the prices are down is a lot of guys threw together some basic fresh rods in hopes to draw the big bucks from buyers who are a bit smarter than that. Every Builder I talk to has mentioned building some decent Rods and take to to BJ so they can get top dollar, Im afraid to say....It don`t work like that "for long any way"

I think the really high Quality Rods will still bring the right money.

Another reason I don`t think the Street Rod market is down is, I have a full shop of cars with no less than 9 more wanting to come in and most of them are Street Rods.

I don`t know why everyone else seams to think Street Rods are going down hill, I can`t remember anytime when it has been so popular, at least from where I see it, Manufacturers are constantly backorder on stuff, Every event I go to is posting record numbers, The phone rings off the wall with building questions, People ordering parts, and top end cars are selling on a regular bases.

All in all, I think I have to disagree, Street Rods may not be selling for what some of the Muscle cars and Collector cars are, But I don`t think that the prices are down, It`s just the others are up.

Leon theres a ton of cars out there for sale right now, mine being one of them. You would not believe some of the trade offers I have had. Alot of harleys and quite a few full out racecars with alot of money in them. Seems that unless you are giving the damn thing away, nobody wants it. There are quite alot of cars on this and other sites that were on them for sale, some of them have been there for 2-4 yrs. There seems to be a select few that want a car built over buying someone elses,or updating what they got. I have a nice 67 Nova that has all the good stuff that a streetrod has and it is worth maybe18,000. A rod will bring twice that supposedly, with the same setup. I think most people think, as do I, that thats kinda lame. Thats why I want to get away from streetrods, and still have a decent ride.

O.K. here is my .02. I have a muscle car, it has always been popular but I have it because I have not reached the point financially where I can build a 40 Willy's . No one is willing to trade me my RS/SS for a 40 and I doubt they will. Cars come in and out of fashion like bell bottom blue jeans but Street Rods will always be in style. They are expensive to build so the margin might not be great but lets hope you are building whatever you love for yourself. To make money on it you have to follow the trend of today. **And just a side note. Eriq has deleted all the old cars from this site-hee-hee Our numbers on sales are actually up!

leon, i watched the auction and it is pitiful. i believe every streetrod that went thru so far has been at least a 40% loss. cars that have at least 70k in them are barely bringing 40's. one or two high end cars only hit 70's and the loss there was probably higher. buyers aint stupid, they have caught on to the ones shining up old cars trying to hit a home run. there are folks going to buy a streetrod to drive and paying 40k and getting into a nice car for 60 cent on the dollar. the collectors dont seem to be interested in them anymore since they are losing market value at a high rate. the restomods are bringing the money right now. glad your busy guy.

Yes I saw the Skykark that went for $100,000, it is a nice car. I learned first hand about the streetrod market being down when I tried to sell my all steel, 46 Ford Convertible that was built with all the best components. Those of you who have seen my car at the Nat's can attest to the fact it was a first class streetrod. I started out asking in the mid $40's for the car and you couldn't build it for that. It was on the market for over a year and I had very few serious inquires before I sold it. Selling a streetrod right now it's definetely a buyers market. Theres just too many cars for sale. As I said all along, you can buy one much cheaper then you can build one for. Right now I'm out of pre 49 streetrods and own a 56 Chev 2 dr post, 350 four speed car. Thats where I believe the current interest is. I could be wrong but thats my opinion.

gman , your car alone made me start to rethink things. i would think it was a buy at 45k. just too many for sale. younger buyers want the restomod thing.

Shine, your right about resto mods. The latest Barrett Jackson Auction proves that to be true. Mopar muscle cars are a hot item right now.

Do you realize what my 70 cuda 440+6 with a hood from the factory that said cuda 383 on it would be worth? It was ones of the first one built and had to have special wheel wells built for it. Took 4 mo to get it.
