I was visiting my Uncle Bob in McAllen TX last weekend. I came out of the local supermarket, and yep, there it was -- the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile! All 7 tons of it. The sign board writeup is pretty amusing. :)

regards, Ken

There are seven wienermobiles in existence currently. Each vehicle is assigned a part of the country. The hotdogger position of driving the wienermobile is an open position to U.S. citzens and the duration of the job lasts for one full year: from the first of June until the following first of June. Every March at Kraft and Oscar Mayer headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin there are final round interviews held for the hotdogger position. Each vehicle holds two hotdoggers. Twelve people are chosen from a final pool of 30 candidates brought to Oscar Mayer headquarters. The 30 candidates are screened across the country. Both current hotdoggers and Oscar Mayer recruiters visit college campuses across the country in search of the next round of hotdoggers. Only college seniors who are about to graduate are eligible for applying to this hotdogger position. Currently there are about 500 hotdogger alumni who have served as hotdoggers and driven the wienermobile. Ask and you will receive. Skeet

Last week, ABC featured a new Oscar Mayer Wienermobile based on a Mini Cooper S. The aptly named Mini Wienermobile swallowed NY Giant defensive end Michael Strahan for photo ops, sporting a license plate that read “LTL LINK.” The Mini is a full 12 feet shorter than the full-size Wienermobile.

Last summer, the Weienermobile visited our local Wal-Mart here in Mt Airy,NC. They were giving inside tours and the kids were lined up for 100 feet , trying to get in. I would have liked to see the inside, but didn't want to deprive some eager kid the oportunity first, so I went about my shopping.

The new smaller one is mentioned in this month's Hot Rod magazine. I happened to see this one on I-75 many years ago down by Naples.
