Ah Yes, the Saga goes on - seems my builder used clear RTV sealer (alot) and I'm having to clean out my fuel filter every five minutes. Getting some pretty good size chunks out of it too. What are the Odds the filter will catch it all or do you all think I'll end up pulling the tank ?? Geez, what a job !!!

Eric, wish I had seen your thread before I posted ! I would have gotten answers plus a few laughs along the way too. I may try to push it to Frog's this weekend and then pull it, but would sure hate to have it go thru the carb and screw it up.

i really doubt it could get through your carb if you tried to get it too, might stop it up . wouldn't hurt anything if it did it gets all gooey in gas . on your trip if you don't want to drop the tank put an extra filter till u get back. good luck on the trip.

Hey, Dave.....for many years I specialized in fuel tanks and senders. My best customer was the one that called in the Fall with a funky tank interior. I would give him the price of a new repro tank. Then the following year in June he would call back...." I went to my first car show of the season Sunday. On the way, my '50 Chevy stopped running. Got a roll back for $250. I dropped the tank and found the sealer job I did last winter was comming loose. A check for $198 is in the mail."
Nuff said, Jim

I hear she is writing an oral biography of her Federal Govt career.
Seriously, I watched an ABC report that said in the last years, she has been making purses and doing appearances on Sat Night Live.
[from Wikipedia] In December 2006, Lewinsky graduated with a master's degree in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics where she had been studying since September 2005.

Bear, you shouldnt ask that type of a question on an open forum such as this. Boy would you be in trouble if your wife read it - and she has lots of time on her hands these days. Be cautious, be bery bery cautious! (I know I spelled it incorrectly - did it for effect)

Okay Experts, the tank is off !!! Now how can I get it clean? I called a radiator shop about boiling it and he said to drop it off to him and he would do it for me but only when he had time. He said could be a week or more so that's not a very good option. I've heard various things, but am sure some of you know what works and what doesn't.

I tried 5 shops and none do gas tanks. They said the Fire Marshall stopped them about 3 years ago. That's why I need another option. One shop said to use a pressure washer and one said Hot soapy water, so thought I'd see what the thought from everyone here was first.

You might as well pull the tank. Thats what its going to take to fix it wether you do clean it out or someone else does it. I sure as heck wouldn't hit the road with a tank full of garbage.

Okay, I used my pressure washer on the tank. By going in thru the gas line/vent hole, the sending unit hole and the gas filler hole, I think it worked very well. Everything I can see, looks very good. Of course the far side of the baffles can't be seen but I had very good pressure and circulation of the soapy water. Drained and blew (using compressor) and will repeat again tomorrow.

Dave, Dave, Dave - Please consider getting a new tank and avoid (1) throwing money away, (2) running the risk of being left stranded on some lonely road in Mississippi or (3) having your car burn to the ground like a friend of mine had happen to his roadster. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Skeet

Well, the tank is back in the car and we'll see how it works out. Thanks to everyone for their input, ideas and suggestions. Just for the record though, this car is a new build, with a new tank that has only had about 4 tanks of gas run through it. That was my main reason for trying to flush it rather than replace it. Also, the visible areas look really good so I have to assume (hope) it all does. I also blew out lines to the pump, (am getting ready to replace the pump) add fresh gas and see what happens. The worst case is I might have to spend another 6-8 hours re-doing it with a new tank but hey, I'm retired !!!!

Love your attitude Dave. I am on sick leave for a while and it is nice to be able (at least in my case) to do a few things and not have that job thing getting in the way. I do miss my job however. Good luck with your fix. We are getting lots of weather from FAY. How about you guys?
