I am asking for opinion and advisability of replacing hydrolic (inflatable) rear shocks with coilovers. The inflatable ones leak down from time to time but I can kick it in the butt a bit of lower some using them. Looking for opinion as to logic and advice as to type and strength to go on my little '36 3 window coupe. I appreciate any chatter concerning this question. Thanks in advance (also, if logical to switch, best place to purchase (price and quality)

If you are trying to maintain a certain stance i would use coil over ,i used to have "AIRSHOCKS"on my car once some times it would ride nice in the summer .in the winter i had to add air and it would ride too rough and had to add air time to time this got old quick so went to a guy at a tire shop that new what i wanted and found me the right coilover to hold the stance i wanted ,this coilover shoch was called back then overload shocks or load leveler, you could add air bags

I like my stance - dont want to change that and the air shocks hold the stance pretty well. Just wondering since so many of you guys have them if I was missing something by using old technology. Thanks for the info Blade. A fellow Floridian

Skeet....Leaf springs from Posies will give you the best ride if you are going to cruize it. Otherwise go TCI, Total Cost Involved coil overs. DO NOT go chrome coils, yes powder coated.

Do you currently have air shocks, or air bags? What do you have for a rear suspension setup?

Aosborn, Stock 36 leaf spring with inflatable shocks are on it now. I would just like to (1) keep my current rake - I like it a lot but, (2) dress up the butt end of it a bit with coil overs if it doesn't cause problems that I don't know about.

Don, Dont have a cross spring - parallel leaf springs and inflatable shocks.

If you have leaf springs, why would you want to add coil-overs, that would add an additional spring and would stiffen up the rear suspension? If you need to adjust the height of the rear end once the air shocks are removed, work with the leaf springs you have. If you need to come up a bit, have the springs re-arched, that is cheap, and then install a pair of quality shocks like KYB's. If you need to go lower, add some lowering blocks, or have the springs de-arched.
