I'd like to put a pair of '49-50 Oldsmobile headlight bezels on the wife's '48 Chevy pickup. I've scoured the internet and can't find anything for sale, used or reproduction. Even tried Year One but they don't make Olds stuff that early. I figure I'll also end up needing or having to fabricate a blister on the front fender for the lower portion of the bezel.

Any suggestions?

That's a tough one Eric. Have no idea. Will ask around and see if the Barn Boys know of any.

Yeah Tommy, I searched for over an hour last night and came up with nothing! I'm pretty darned good at finding stuff on the net but this one kicked my butt.

I was afraid of that Don. I figured someone must be re-popping these by now!

The A-bone is coming along. I wasn't going to say anything until I could post a video, but I've driven it around the neighborhood a few times racking up 4.9 miles. I work out another bug every time it comes home and my newest bug seems to be a bad fuel pump. Emptying the fuel filter out often, LOL. I'm going to see if I can find a small brush with a really long handle to scrub the bottom of the tank and get most of the crap off of the bottom. I thought that the crap in the tank was creating the problem but there's not enough junk in the filter to be starving the motor like it is.

So it's running and driving good, everything works great! I do keep blowing fuses on the brakelights, but that should be easy to find.

Aren't the headlight doors/bezels the same for Chevy, Chevy pickup, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile for those years?

I'm looking for the whole assembly that includes the "drop down" area under the headlight. Don't know what else to call it, but have seen a few on pick em ups that looked killer!

Eric, check with McMillan Rod and Custom. Have them build just the lower portion out of stainless and bolt it under your stock lights.

What you are looking for is a cast aluminum or pot metal trim item into which the parking light lens and bezel mounted. Not sure if the entire parking light assembly was mounted to that same trim piece. Your best bet will be to contact some of the Arizona or New Mexico auto recyclers.

Have you tried Fusic? They deal only in Olds.

I have all the 2008 Fusick catalogs and they do not show even the parking light bezel or lens for the type of assembly Eric is looking to find. It is indeed going to be a tough set to find. CTC Auto Ranch in Denton, Tx is usually a good source for odd ball restoration parts, but not even they had these.

GREAT idea Jeremy! I'll wait until I'm a little closer to doing something with that part of the truck. It's still sitting on the side of the house waiting patiently for it's turn. Hopefully this one doesn't take 8 years!

Eric, I'll be attending the Auto Fair in Charlotte NC next month. It's a gigantic auto parts flea market held there twice a year. I'll keep your Olds bezels in mind while I'm there. Hey, how about posting a photo of that unusual looking mail box behind your 2 door. Never seen one like that before.

What's your budget on the bezels ?

Thanks Sach, current budget is pocket lint. That cool mailbox belongs to da34guy, the shot was taken as we were loading the car at his house after our week long thrash to get it running! I'm sure he has a better picture of it somewhere!

Eric, the one you show and the one rc57 shows are different. Which one are you looking for? There is an Olds club here on the Island I will see if I can contact them for you.

I've done more searching and these look like they were used all the way up to '54. Can't get a picture large enough to tell if they're different between years or not. I guess if I'm going to have to do sheet metal surgery to fit them it doesn't matter much. :-)

Yeah, they used a similar thing on models up to 1954, however the design for the later years is significantly different in overall appearance. In 1951, they got cheap and went to a chromed stamped sheet metal parking light back bracket, which is significantly smaller than those on the '49-'50 models. You can tell by the picture of a '50 Olds fender below without the cast piece or headlight buckets. The piece Eric wants is a pretty big chunk of metal.

'53 Buick headlight and parking light bezel is pretty neat if it isn't too large for Eric's pickup's fender. Height 13 in. Width 9 1/2 in. 7 in. diameter.

Here are some good shots of each year.(from carnut.com) The pictures are out of order but you can look at the tags for each photo it has the year.

No I didn't, Jeremy, but thank you. Hot rod funds are currently low and when I originally asked the question I had figured someone was making them, so I was just going to ask the question and file the information in the back of my empty head for a later date.

Thanks to everyone for all for all of the help, and thanks for the leads on the one you guys knew of. At least I now know that I'll need to buy originals and finding them isn't super easy... unless I ask you all!
