I need your help! My wife has a Mercedes that normally runs great. However after sitting in the garage for a few months when I start it up it idles about 1800 to 2200 rpms. Just a little too high for normal driving! LOL please help so I don't have to refinance my house for the repair bill! My marriage is riding on this! She says I can fix my old cars so I should be able to fix this! thanks guys for any help,......CR

It decided todo something very similar. It was just idling a little too fast. finally found tht the engine was running just a bit on the lean side as a result of the rubber inlet tube leaking air..(Hence the lean mixture) I found this by spraying wd40 around the rubber boot connections, map sensor, etc. I hope it helps. This is an air adjustment. I believe there is a large vacuum hose running from it and often cracks with age. You can turn the screw and adjust the air/idle mixture but since it suddenly started the problem I suspect the hose. There are several others to inspect while there. Also there is a door in the horn of the air cleaner that is electrical and operates sort of like an electric choke. Make sure it is hooked up and working. I assume the car idles high cold and hot? It is fixed! A simple overload protector relay had gone bad, causing it to idle at 1800, the motor to run rough, and the abs to quit working. Also your idle bypass valve could be stuck open both are easy to check. This valve will be in the thottle body it lets air in below the thottle plate. some time just taking it out and cleaning with carb cleaner and clean the hole that it came out off.
