We had a pretty good earthquake here in So. Cal. today. 5.6 or something like that and centered about 5 miles from where I live. I was sitting in front of my computer (not logged onto this site at the time!) in my home office when things started shaking. Having lived in California for 62 years, I've felt my share of quakes. This one wasn't close to the most violent shaking I've felt, but it did sway from side to side more than anything I've ever experienced. Fortunately, my wife wasn't home at the time so I didn't have to try to calm her down, but as soon as the ground stopped moving, I bolted for the garage to make sure my Model A was OK. The only damage seemed to be an 18 wheeler (12" long die-cast model) that lost control on the top shelf and plunged over the edge and landed on my freshly painted hood sides. Fortunately, they were covered with a towel and there appears to be no damage. Only after I was sure all was OK in the garage did I check out the rest of the house. No problems, just light fixtures swaying. I just find it funny that I didn't go to check on the china, or dishes, or paintings, or anything else in the house. Straight to the garage!!!! |
