Well Gene, paint is certainly much cheaper than the real thing, but I would only chance it if I had a rat rod. I haven't seen a painted tire yet, that doesn't look like it wasn't painted. From what I understand, the stuff is thick and must be brushed on, and the brush strokes are evident. Also, you have to like the really wide (3+") style whites, because you'd have to paint to the ridge line on the sidewall. If you wanted a 50's (2-1/2") or 60's style whitewall you'd be SOL. I love whitewalls, by the way, and think they'd look great on your car.

Gene. I think you can still buy Port-o-Walls. Cheaper than the real thing, nicer than paint. But why not just spring for 4 new ww's, after all you getting 4 new tires with the white walls. You can get them in radial or bias. Look at Diamondback Classics, they are a little less expensive than Coker. http://www.widewhitewalltires.com/

If you prefer Coker , ask them for a discount since they are a vendor supporting this site, and you are a member here. Don't hurt to ask.

Why not try some on an "unimportant" tire and leave it out in the weather for a few months

Back in the 70's, I used to paint the witewalls on my 1946 Hudson street rod I had at the time. It looks real good, but it is delicate, and you have to repaint real often. As it has been said, probably OK for a low buck rat rod, but beyond that, it is a hassle. Scruffybeast

Hey, here is a wild thought. Has anybody tried any of the new paint for plastics on your tire? Wonder if that would stick and hold up at all.

Back to lunch.
