I'm rebuilding a 1970 Chevy C10 and I'd like to swap the original steering wheel out for something like a 1968 Impala or Chevelle wheel. Does anyone know if that's compatible or not.

All you need to do is check for the same bolt pattern and backspacing. Just about any junk yard or tire shop should be able to give you a definitive answer. Or just look online at any of the endless number of wheel manufacturers and distributors for the specs for each vehicle's wheels.

most gm steering wheels are the same spline and size so you should be able to do this with no problem other than it not fitting your column just right. It may be bigger or smaller than the c10 where the steering wheel meets the turnsignal switch. Hope this hellps you RED

PS you won't really know until you try it anyway , why not change the whole column.

Ever feel like an idiot? I do now. Somehow I got Wheels in my mind when initially reading the post, and not steering wheel. What a dumb, dumb!

one thing you will will want to watch is the depth of the wheel. some of the impala wheels were deeper from mounting hub area to outer rim. as far as bolting on most anything gm from about 55 up will work. i cut down a 55 belair wheel from a 17" to 15" diameter & it bolted right up on my 69 c-10 column.

My C10 has a wheel from a mid 90's Chev p/u, it came that way when I found it in North Carolina and looks like it belongs there.

thanks! i din't want to pay the $300 for the 15" repop, so cut the outer hoop off & used one from a corvair wheel. ended up with about $150 including the chromework invested. i don't like the smaller diameter horn ring on the repops.

I've done this a few times, the columns were very similar in the cars til' 69 when the key went from the dash to the column. The trucks stayed the same with the key on the dash til 72 and the vans were in the 80's I think. Most of the wheels should fit, but the depth of the base of the wheel to the top of the column might be the only issue.

I don't think you'll have trouble using a wheel that late.
