I know we have done this before, but from time to time there have been discussions on gauges. What brand do we like and which do we hate? Are the all in one type gauges pretty much all the same diameter?

I've heard lots of negatives about Dolphin, but some guys love 'em. Take that for what it's worth.
I've heard VERY few complaints about Classic Instruments, seems most home builders and pro builders think they're top notch!
I use Classic gauges like the look and have never had a problem. The good thing I can see about Dolphin is that they removed the fish picture from the gauge face.
All depends on the look you want. I like classic, But current ride I have Stewert Warner. Have them in my rag top. In my 51 Ford coupe I have Haneline 5 in one.. Fits perfect and works great. Plug in makes it simple. Back in the day we only used SW in the belly tanks. But their was not a lot of choices from in the 50's & 60's
My six mechanical VDOs work great, no complaints. Good senders & instructions too. I'm not saying they are the best...but I've seen them in some mighty expensive show cars.
Classic, Haneline, Dakota Digital, and Cyberdine are what we handle due to lack of problems, dependablity, and variety.
No the all in ones aren't all basically the same. different size openings and gauge positions. Haneline makes some of the neatest with their 3-n-1 and 5-n-1 units. but that's just my opinion.
My fish faced gauges have been alot of trouble and now the speedo is acting up again. It was replaced once at about 10,000 miles and now this one at about 5,000 miles is suddenly reading 10 to 15 mph fast. The voltmeter pegged out awhile ago and I had to pay to replace it.Also after doing some checking with a mechanical gauge I found the oil press.gauge is off by 5 to 8 psi and the temp gauge checked against a digital is reading 180 when the eng is really 167.The two newer gauges don't match in color the other ones, different shades of green. Soon as I get my new electric exhaust cutouts installed(Jegs) i'm going either with Classic or Dakota Digital. Like the Dakota's and anyone with those let me know how they are. Only concern was being able to read them easily.Of course accuracy and dependability is most important.
Never a problem with several sets of VDO's. Minor issues with Dakota Digital but overall satisfied, the key is to run separate grounds for each indicator. Latest in Tri 5 is Autometer with no problems. Not everything I've heard about the fish has been positive although I've never used them myself.
Yes we sell the Haneline 5-n-One. it has the 4 normal gauges -fuel,temp.volt,& oil placed at 12 -3 - 6 - 9 (as a clock) and the speedo in the center. comes in 5 different colors of face with a chrome bezel. a matching large tach is available I can send you picture of the gauges and colors - just drop me a note at ronhotrod@yahoo.com
I BOUGHT A CAR THAT HAS MOONEYES GAUGES. 4 OF THEM ARE INCORRECT ON THE READINGS, AND AFTER ONLY 800 MILES ONE HAS ALREADY QUIT. NO RESPONSE FROM THE COMPANY.
I have Auto Meter in my car and when I purchased car the odmeter did not resiter the miles so I contacted the CO.to find out if I sent it in could they repair it for me knowing it was out of warranty by about 5 years. The reply I got back was to contact for info.I did so and lady took all my info.about size, elec.or manual and mileage shown.Well she said I should recieve a new one complete with orginal miles in few days at no cost to me.I did get a new unit.So you know now who I would buy from.AUTO METER
I'm going to use ISSPRO gauges in my truck... Not only do they have some great looking stuff, they also have the "extra" gauges I need. Boost, Pyro, and Air Pressure.
