How many of you are using an in-line steering vibration dampner ? My steering is set up for manual steering and I read in a blog that vibration dampners are only used in power steering set ups, to eliminate the "HISS" noise of the pump, heard up through the steering column. Any truth to that reasoning ?

All I ever hear is the sound of my engine. Was that an import site?

No Gregg, it was a Chevy Camaro club I ran across on the net a few weeks back. I was just wondering if the extra $100 for a dampner was worth it, but you have a good point about the sound of the engine drowning out any noise from the column. Thamks.

So Cal Speed Shop has one available for about $80. My buddy has a Vega box on his '32 highboy roadster and says it really helps. He's running bias ply tires though.

Oh, his is manual steering. Figured since I said Vega box you'd know that.

Brain fart-I thought it was for the noise factor? They work good for stock and mustang fronts with all those quality tires out there!

a vibration dampner is to eliminate the jarring and road rash feeling one gets when running a straight metal steering shaft from the column to the box or rack. Every new car has one. without one you can 'feel' every pebble you run over. I highly recommend one in every steering set up. You can get them to splice in the double 'd' shaft or as a combination u-joint-dampner. You will notice a difference without it. Has nothing to do with noise.

I put a Borgeson combo u-joint & vibration reducer in my "34" with power steering last Winter. Works great for me.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll install one in my steering, just as a precaution.

Put a Flaming River unit on our '33 with manual rack. Many more on power. It is for wheel vibration.
