Two tubes or four? It is a transformer shine. Open it up and look to see if the wires are in series or parallel... Sounds to me like a bad ballast if you are sure the tubes are good. Make sure the contacts at the tubes are making good contact. MC

2 tubes either bulb will work on one side but not the other. but both have to be in so it is getting contact. kinda strange.

Sounds like the ballast.... It's just a transformer that energizes the gas in the tube.

I'd have to look at it. But you could certainly have a transformer go bad if one set of the windings inside went bad. BUT if the wiring going to the contacts is all in series, then it has to be something else.... but I wouldn't know what unless maybe the transfomer (ballast) was weak and just not putting out enough ummmphh to energize the gas. Should feel pretty confident saying it is a bad ballast. Break them open and look at them... could probalby get a cheap replacement at Lowe's.

I have Found that it's cheaper to replace the whole light than to buy a Ballast.

swapping a ballast is easier than taking down the fixture. i use daylight bulbs in the booth and will in the building room. lowes has ballast for 16 bucks.

Before jumping off with a new ballast, check the connectors. In other than in the most expensive of fixtures the connectors in most are 100% pure junk. Born to fail!

it has to be the ballast because it still get a connection thru the bulb. pull the bulb and the other one goes out.

need to change 8ft ballast. one light out and you checked tubes in another fixture to see if they are good. 99,9% of the time bad ballast.watch how you reinstall ballast mis wiring will cause same problem.let me know how it goes. also in my business i change lamps too to save call back. sam 1951
