got an 8 ft double tube light fixture that only lights one side. good bulbs and with the one removed the other does not work. can a ballast lose one side and still work ? thanks

Posted by Italianguy63  -  07/18/2008 11:08 AM Two tubes or four? It is a transformer shine. Open it up and look to see if the wires are in series or parallel... Sounds to me like a bad ballast if you are sure the tubes are good. Make sure the contacts at the tubes are making good contact. MC Speed is about how fast do you want to spend! But you could certainly have a transformer go bad if one set of the windings inside went bad. BUT if the wiring going to the contacts is all in series, then it has to be something else.... but I wouldn't know what unless maybe the transfomer (ballast) was weak and just not putting out enough ummmphh to energize the gas. Should feel pretty confident saying it is a bad ballast. Break them open and look at them... could probalby get a cheap replacement at Lowe's. Speed is about how fast do you want to spend! In other than in the most expensive of fixtures the connectors in most are 100% pure junk. Born to fail!
