Installing a panhard bar is an option I have used for tight clearance wheel/tire packages. It will keep the axle from moving laterally very much in the car and can greatly reduce or eliminate the rubbing. It will especially help if you get most of the rubbing when cornering.

raise the car or loose the tires. there is no fix for rubbing tires. next time make sure the tire will fit before you buy. cutting inner wheel well lip is a bad idea as it weakens the qrt panel. if it is in the rear that is rubbing let it rub , as long as it is not hitting anything that can cut the tire.

I have a 1968 Camaro and never a rubbing problem however I go for the original muscle car look. So if you want the more tuner looking 17" rims you may need to consider thinking of the following options. Call Eaton Detroit Spring and ask about new rear leaf springs with a higher rate which would not lift the car but would keep it from dropping with extra loads in the back- (to be honest I have never found anyone wants to ride in the back of a Camaro for a long time anyway.) Or if you want a cheap fix...air shocks or a shackle kit will lift the car but then you will more than likely lose the look you want. I agree with Shine, don't cut up the wheel lip it will only mean a sharper surface to cut your tires with. Best of luck and maybe some pictures??

Don't cut the inner lip. Roll it over. Basically it is folding the part that sticks in flat with the inner wheel well skin. Early Trans Am racers did this to get wider tires into a "stock body". Eastwood makes a roller tool to roll fender lips.

bigdude has the best answer. Sounds like two much tire. Check your rim width and drop to a smaller width and height tire.

My 34 has been known to rub occassionally under a load, so I stopped carrying people in the rear seat. Problem solved.

Want big tires on your Camaro?? Easy. Open the trunk, install wider wheel wells, relocate the tank to inside the trunk, weld in an inboard leaf spring relocator and narrow the rear axel. Bada-Bing. No more tire rub. If it was me, I would first call a major tire/wheel outlet (Discount Tire Direct, Tire Rack, ect.) and ask them what the largest tire/wheel combo is for your stock Camaro. They have done it a thousand times, they will know.

blksheep...no longer rub like I use to...in Charlotte

You should have checked the back space before you bought those tqs, You could use air shocks when you haul some lard a-- in the back other wise leave alone roll the lip don,t cut it,

If those several guys say they don't have rubbing on a Camaro exactly like yours, only one of two things can be fact.

1. They are all Liars!

2. The springs on your car have become weak and are shot.

Yep he,s right ,how often u haul someone in the back? I put 2:55 r 70 on the back of my chevelle 15 x 8.5 with 4.5 bs rolled the fender air shock for when someone rode in the back which was not very often problem solved, plus car was lowered 1.5 in rear 3.5 in front. But then again guess i,m old school with 15 in just don,t like rubber band tires for the street plus them big ol pizza pan wheels different strokes for dif folks you'll work it out good luck.

How about a 10 pound sledge and make more clearance ....................... actually stiffer springs would be the best answer.

Do the tires rub on both sides of the car or mainly just one? For Pete's sake don't put on air shocks, those things can kill a decently handling car and turn it into a mess. Beefing up the spring rate just to solve a interference problem isn't the answer either. Rolling the wheel well lip edges and centering up the axle will solve a lot of minor interference problems. If it is major interference you will have to fine tune the wheel offset. Measure from the fender to the tire on both sides. I'll bet the measurements aren't the same, especially if the leaf spring bushings are rubber and have alot of miles on them. Even as much as a 1/4" offset of the rear suspension can make a big difference if the tires rub or not.

Well i didn't know he was going to road race it. the air shocks had no adverse effect on the handling of the chevelle, i've got a feeling this guy don't want to rebuild the whole rear of the car, is it a cruiser are racer? heck there are dozen ways to cure it if u want to go to all the trouble an expense, that enough from me i'm outta here.

I don't mean to offend anyone regarding the equipment they choose to run on their car. I have had literally dozens of customers come to me with cars that they said drove "just fine" only to find they have just got used to driving an ill handling or even downright dangerous car. In this case, major rework might just not be necessary to correct his problem. Apparently he likes the tire/wheel combo he installed otherwise he wouldn't have chosen it. With some measuring and some minor modifications the combo may work just fine. He may not have to throw the baby out with the bath water. About building a "road racing" car, I have been putting alot of that technology on the street for the past 20 years with much success, and I and many others would much rather drive a car that works in the real world which has curves in the road as opposed to technology that only works well in a straight line.
