Just writing to see if any of you have used 39 Ford LED rear lamps in any of your cars. Everybody is selling them now, but there are different types too. Some are just flat lamp bodies to be used in your trim with a pigtail for the 1157 socket. others have wiring harnesses with the whole lamp. Some have 40 leds, some have around 13 of them but bigger sized. Everyone selling them I asked about any kind of warranty and their reply was "we have never had a problem with them" so I take that as you buy it, they're yours. Leds can go out and they seem to say they aren't wired in series which is good. I'm sure there are "good" led bulbs as well as "cheap" ones. Have you guys used any, what type, and how have they worked (or better, how have they lasted)? I put some in my 38 chevy years ago and like them..but now everybody has them and different types.

I enjoy driving my 32 and wanted more rear light. While at the zoo last year I purchased a pair of the type that replace the lens and plug in like a bulb. They are very bright and I am happy with them. They also flashed ok without any resistors nor special flashers. Jack

you have several choices. the ones you mentioned as well as just an LED bulb to replace your 1157, a complete LED assembly (hsg and all) or a kit to replace the inside of your lamp. I like the looks of the kit because it looks stock until the lights come on. To me the replacement units 'look' like replacements! I can see that it is a LED by the light colored lens. Lambert Enterprixes makes the carded led kit that replaces the bulb (receptacle and all) in your stock housing. That way you only change the lighting inside, and retain the outward appearence of stock. We sell them and back them with a warranty.

We also handle the led bulb itself. But think the card replacement is brighter. The less expensive units look cheap to me as the lens is much lighter shade of red and I can see the LEDs thru them even when not in use. But they do 'work'

I believe that the ones that are built into the lenses would be the best. I have used the LED bulbs and while they are good, they could be better. One important thing to keep in mind is that LED's are directional. If your tail lights are mounted on an angle, like the 39 Ford fenders, than the bulk of the light shines on the same angle direction. If your lights are mounted on a surface perpendicular to the road, the light emitted will be at the best angle.

I believe that brian41chevy meant to say technostalgia. If you want a really nice version (look-a-like) of the '39 Ford, check out Technostalgia's new '39 Lincoln Zephyr LED lights. I just installed a pair on my '34, and they are awesome. I had an inexpensive set of '39 Ford LED's and with the mounting angle, they were poor during the daylight hours. I had guys nearly running over me, because the turn signal wasn't easy to see (see orphans2's comments). Absolutely not a problem with the Zephyr lights. They are pricey, but worth it, in my opinion. Bottom line....stay away from the cheapies.

Dont buy the cheap ones. Some are made in China and the lense are kind of pink in color.( I bought some of them) The last ones I just bought are from Technostalgia, made in the US. Very bright and have this rapid fire blinking circuit. Very good product. Ken

www.cool-leds.com is the site for the technostalgia. Thanks for correcting me guys, it was late. One of the best features of these lights is the rapid fire brake light. It flashes 3 times quickly before staying on continuosly. I've had people say that even though my tail lights are small, the flashing grabs your attention, even better than the third brake light and even in the bright sun. Good people to deal with.

I believe Technostalgia are the ones who I bought my 38 chevy ones from..they were just the circuit board cards and wiring which I installed into my housings..and they do work well. If I am not mistaken they even told me they were warranted for life, but I could have heard wrong. They seemed more expensive just getting that flat cicuit board, but I have no complaints. I also see on their site they talk about a "100 degree" viewing angle. These would be on a slight angle on my willys and we talked about that wondering how that would work. I see the 39's they offer look like a lens and all item. I was just at Goodguys and should have looked at Technostalgia's there, but was rather overwhelmed by everyone selling them now and having all the different types. Leo has me a bit worried about the angle thing, but he stated he bought cheap ones..care to elaborate on that Leo? Are these Zephyr ones you speak of the same size as 39's?

cruizznn....The angle was a problem only on the cheaper 39 Ford LEDs that I had on my 34 Ford. They were just not bright enough to overcome the angle. I could tell that if they were straight-up, they would have been fine. I'm sure they didn't have enough LEDs in them. These Technostalgia Zephyr lights that I just installed on the 34 are exceptional, even with that angle, and in bright daylight conditions. They are larger than the 39 Ford lights, and I first was unsure about how good they would look. Now that they are installed, I really like them. They are about 7-3/8" long and 3-1/2" wide, so a little bit larger than the 39 Ford lights. They mount in the same holes as the 39 Ford lights. Note::: My 39 lights had the can?/bucket? on them, which measures about 2" by 1-1/4", but the Zephyrs only need a hole about 3/8" diameter for the wires to go thru the fender, plus the mounting stud holes of course. And the Zephyrs are warranted for life. I don't know if Technostalia does that with all their lights. Sorry about the lengthy post.
