My 8 year old Austin decided that his birthday present to me would be for ME to take the day off of work and he'd help me all day with the Model A. He convinced my dad to do the same, and our good friend Dave Watson came over to help too. So with the four of us (plus my son Brayden pitched in a bunch, as did daughters Jessica, Bailee and Jenaye!) here's the items we checked off of our to do list:

Vacuum cap on carb

Nut & bolt chassis

Set toe

Finalize steering linkage

Align and secure jam nuts

Install cotter keys

Install windshield and gaskets

Wire electric fan

Fix rear parking light

Finish 3rd brake light

Clean up wiring harness

Add 12V plug for cell charger

Roll stock odometer back to 00000.0

Install cowl lights and hook up to blinkers

Add ATF for cooler capacity

Windshield wiper arm

Install exterior door handles

Install interior door handles and window cranks

Install PVC and plumb to carb

Bolt down dash rail

Install AHOOGA horn

Install rear view mirror

Install ground wire from motor to chassis

Utah state VIN tag and license plate (yes, it's registered and legal for $57.38)

Fired it up last night in the driveway, open headers! Everything seems to be working perfectly so I'll throw some pipes on it in the next day or two, run it in the driveway for a while to be sure everything is cool and go for a drive. We have a cruise night Saturday and I'm really hoping to drive the A-bone there! Wish me luck!

That's why I call him Jose! Little turd is one hard worker, and he is really good at working on cars! He can't wait to tear into Victoria's truck!

Don, thank you AGAIN for helping so much last month! That's something I will NEVER forget or take for granted! I'm this far because of you... and Dale too!

I want to know how you pulled that off without an injury. I don't have my 10 year old in the shop much because he seems to attract accidents. Poor fella You are a lucky man and I think it is about time for some more pictures...

No blood shed at all Tammy, can you believe it??? I'm sure I swore a few times but I never even threw a tool! Austin knows his way around cars and the tool box pretty darn good. He knows where all the tools are and what they're called. Really nice when you're laying under the car and say "Hey Jose, get me a 1/2" combo wrench" and it's in your hand in SECONDS!" He'll patiently wait watching what I'm doing until I give him another project. Funny thing, almost all of the kids like hanging out in the garage. I enjoy teaching them as I work and I'm surprised at how much they retain!

Hee hee... Robert I guess since my kids aren't old enough to drive I don't have that problem. Of course my 9 year old twins were talking about sneaking the car out while I'm sleeping one night. I told them there's no way they'd even open the garage door without waking me up!

Was so busy working yesterday (8am until 10:30pm) that I didn't take a single photo! Car doesn't look much different than in the photo here, just got lots of loose things tied up as you can see from the list.

Great Eric! You must be thrilled. Del Mar next year? Isn't it fun to be able to scratch those items off your list. I have a mini-celebration (a cold beer) at each item completed. With what you accomplished yesterday that would amount to a case.

Thanks Robert! I drank water and Diet Coke all day (not at the same time) but need your help. Would you be so kind to drink that case of beer for me? I'm sure Shine, Fitzwell, bigdude, littledude and many others would be willing to help!

Del Mar 09? AB-SO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!!! Rod & Custom Magazine has a little tour in August leaving LA and heading to Bonneville. I don't know if I can swing it financially but Victoria and I would sure love to make that trip! If we can make it we'll drive the Tudor to LA, on the trip, then 400 miles home from Bonneville. I should be getting pretty decent mileage with 3:00 gears and 30" tall tires but the price of fuel and hotels is ridiculous!

By the way, everything is working perfectly! If you remember the single taillight/license plate mount that Don came up with, I wired the lamp as the single rear driving light and the brake lamp as the third brake light. For additional visibility I put very small (but very bright) LED's underneath the body on each side for blinkers and brakes! When off, they can't be seen unless you get down REAL LOW. Everything works great!

Who was it a few years ago that was slapping me around for buying an "all-black" wiring kit? Can't remember, but whoever it was needs to know I'll choose all black from now on! Wires are nearly invisible along the black chassis and its still a piece of cake to identify the wires.

I'll be happy to help ya out Eric. I also got a bunch done on my Tudor over the past two weeks. Got the splash aprons aligned, bolted down the body, mounted the rear fenders & running boards, finished the brake pedal installation with return spring, finished the parking brake, throttle linkage, kick-down cable, trans dip-stick, vacuum hoses, new Mooneyes finned valve covers, all sensors mounted, overhead console installed, fuse block installed, and fuel line installed from rear to pump to carb. Starter, flywheel cover, radiator and grille shell go on this Saturday. Let's see, how many beers is that? My neighbor, Dale, helps me with that part! LOL Maybe I'll even make Del Mar!!!! Wouldn't that be a blast!!!

You and Dale DRINK UP! But don't keep count, that kind of defeats the purpose!

Dave, if you come back for Del Mar you're welcome to ride around with us, but I promise my car isn't the caliber of Don, Dale, or Robert's cars! Thanks for the b-day wishes!

Ricko, my dad started me young too! I still remember sitting on the inner-fender of his F250 helping wrench the 428CJ he built in our garage in El Cajon! We moved from there in '76 to Wyoming, then in '80 to Utah. He worked for the phone company and they'd transfer him into an area that was doing poorly, he'd restructure and get it efficient again. We ended up in St. George in 1985 when I was 14 and have been here pretty since then. (Four years in Salt Lake City, two years in Massachusetts.)

Thanks Brant! Glad you're coming around here again, we missed you!

To my Aussie boys, thanks for the compliments! You two build incredible cars and compliments from you guys are well received! Here's to a short winter for ya! Hope to see you again Tony. Hope to meet you someday Mick!

Oh man, would LOVE to but I probably need to work out the kinks first! Lets do it one of these weekends soon! I'm totally up for that drive!

Got the passenger side exhaust all done last night... cutting and welding in the garage until 11pm, then cleaned it real good and painted the pipe flat white! Gonna try to blast out of work early today and get the driver's side done. I did the easy side first, the driver's side is gonna be a PITA with the MC in the way! Wish I'd just bought set of Limefires damnit!

Ugh. Friday night worked on the car until 11:30. Tried to start it to no avail.

Went out Saturday morning to work some more. Hit the key chug-chug then NOTHING! Got out to see what was going on and this thought occurred to me... water shouldn't be coming out of my headers should it?

Backed out the plugs, cylinders 1 and 4 were full of water. Screamed, swore, threw some tools, pull the intake manifold and found the problem. Replaced gaskets, re-hooked everything up and timing is now way the @#$^#$%& off! Pushed it in the garage yesterday afternoon and haven't touched it since.

So I strolled out to the garage after thinking about if for a few days... and pouting no doubt. Pulled the distributor up and rotated the rotor one tooth counter clockwise. Set it back in place and tapped the starter until the distributor dropped in place, adjusted the timing to roughly where it used to be. Fiddled around with things a little and GOT IT RUNNING AGAIN!

This time I didn't have water in the cylinders so it looks like that problem is solved! Still have a few issues that need to be ironed out like no vacuum for the brakes and I need to install collector gaskets. Also slipped it into gear and felt like the trans was low on fluid. It was, but I didn't take the time to fill it up tonight.

Busy tomorrow night, date night is Wednesday, so Thursday I hope to get back into it and accomplish more. Wish me luck!

By the way, here are a few photos from Saturday morning. You should be able to make out the exhaust I welded up and painted white. I thought the white pipes nailed the 60's look I was after!

Thanks Jeremy! How do you like the white exhaust? Too much?

Don, if I can figure out the vacuum problem and make sure the tranny and motor are in good shape we just might do that! Thursday is a state holiday so I'll have some time to work on the car this week.
