I tried to primer my truck today but the paint chunked and chalked up. I was using Limco 800K 2 part primer. Mixed 5/1. I only had the paint in gun for about 10 minutes and started clogging. I have clean air and brand new DeVilbiss paint gun. The only thing I can think of is the paint thinner I ran through the gun to clean it before I started painting. It is ACE brand but I don't think that should matter. I had really big chunks of paint when I cleaned the gun and couldnt even get all the paint out of the can.

Am I doing something wrong, or, did I get some bad paint ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Hog.

the hotter the outside air temperature is the quicker paint/primer 'sets up' Also check the air pressure at the gun. and yes if you didn't clean and dry the cup after putting thinner thru it it could cause a problem.

I never mix anything until I'm ready to shoot it. and as soon as I'm finished I clean my gun right then. Today's products are alot less forgiving than the old days, but produce better finishes. Unfortunately one must stay on top of ever changing products

I don't know any thing about Limco, but it could be the wrong kind of hardner all together. I had a helper who was mixing primer and picked up the clear hardner and it was rock solid in less then three minutes. 5:1 sounds like an odd mix ratio, If thats 5 Parts primer to 1 part hardner sounds like it shouldn't get hard for a long time. Or did you mix it 5=harnder to 1=primer too much hardner.
