Was over pickin up steel this a.m. and started talkin to the owner, the subject of Hot Rods came up

Wonder why,-- and he asked me if I'd B interested in doin sum work on an old car he built 20 years ago for the ISCA show circuit.

He took me around back to a 6 car garage -open the door and I almost SH^T in my pants. Said he'd only drivin it 50 miles or so, and 1 time down the 1/4.

This was sittin there, plus 5 other incredible cars.

30 minutes later I was back with the trailer, sum gas, and 2 new batterys.

15 minutes later it was on the trailer.

He showed me the dyno sheet from 1998 --a whoppin 978H.P. 1121 ft lbs tq.

This 1 is gonna B fun to work on AND ROAD TEST.

Yeah Starfire --it's street legal -Titled and insured

BTW Are ya ever gonna post sum pics of your "COLLECTION" ????

Bob D.

He wants me to go thru it from front to back and make sure everything is O.K. on it.He want to start drivin it !!!!

Already know there is a brake problem.

He wants the gauges (10 of em) changed out, an air cleaner fabbed so he can run the hood top( it's only got 1 5/8 " clearance)

Replace all bushings, the whole Enchilida.

This thing is a work of art.

I'd venture to say that in todays market it would cost over 200 grand to replicate it.

The workman ship is unbelievable.

It's hard to believe anyone would just let a genuine three tire shop to the mile rubber burner like that just sit in a garage for years. I'd be out enjoying the thing as often as possible. Have fun!

Boats, Planes, off road race cars, roundy round stuff, motorhomeSS, just a few homes scattered all over the western U.S.

And plenty of Real Estate.

Don, it's amazing what can be found in the 'building around back'. What engine is in it, looks like a Mopar 440 wedge engine.

If this guy plans on putting many road miles on this car, he will be much happier if the track locater with the heim joints was removed and replaced with the longest panhard bar that you can fit on the rear axle...

blksheep could be correct, I beleive it's a '38 Mopar---DeSoto, Plymouth or Dodge which have pretty much the same body style except for grille area.

Saw a hale of these mid 30's mopars pulled out from behind barns in the early 80's in upstate N.Y. By that time, the majority of the Ford and GM coupes and coaches had done roundy round duty. IMO, the late 30's, early 40's Mopars were one of those girls that always went to the prom alone. Don, when I look at this one, all I can say is "She ain't pretty, but, She sure can cook".

I have a '36 Plymouth story. When I was five years old at the almost end of W.W. II, the old man next door had his car jacked up with the wheels off. Nobody was around when I went over to nose around. He had all the lugnuts in the hubcaps on the ground. I picked one up and it felt real nice. I thought, "Oh boy, I bet I could throw one of these really far. I threw all his lugnuts into a big weeded field! It was all innocent, I didn't think I had done anything wrong. When he asked me about them. I told him I had thrown all of them into the field. He told my mother and I couldn't sit down the rest of the day, I was hurtin'. He went to a junk yard and got some more. We all laughed about it years later. If I were him I would have killed me!

OK, but the '36 Plymouths I've seen don't have the divided rear window. I was going by the style line on the lower front fender as it leaves the running board and curves upwards---like a '38 not '36. What do I know compared to the owner.

Don, I was a huge Mopar fan from 18 years old, having owned many 440 & Hemi powered cars in my past, it's easy to spot one. Are you sure it's a '36, after only 50ΒΌ miles in 20 years, maybe the owner forgot what year it was...................lol
