Monday my new help showed up early just like you would think for a first day, I was told right up front that helper didn't know anything about cars really. This doesn't bother me too bad I would rather they be honest than say they know it all and then find out they don't know anything at all. Started to remove all the stainless on the 55 convert after helper found where tools were everything went fine. Today helper started to strip paint off car I will post pictures of what we found tomorrow in builders corner. New help said it was amazing to watch paint wrinkle from stripper and that all in all it is harder work than expected. Funny thing is I have had maybe 10 or so helpers in the last 4 years , paid them anywhere from 10 to 20 per hour and this one is doing better than all the rest. Maybe I have a keeper here , egar to learn, doesn't goof off , at work all the time so far on time, wants to stay late, and doesn't tell you about how they have restored lots of cars over the years. Oh yeah I should mention She is only 19 going to college and didn't want to work at fast food or wallmart this summer. I've known her since she was born my wife thinks it is great, her dad and mom also. Even the man that owns the 55 doesn't mind her working on it either. Just a win win situation also. So guys be careful this little gal may be better than alot of us at this old car game one of these days. RED

Good for you red!

I kinda did the same with a 14 year old kid whose dad's 57 hardtop we had in here for an electrical problem. He wanted to learn some stuff and is kinda car crazy........perfect! I made him find the problem and fix it, and he did a great job.

Great kid, Spencer is his name. He is calm and very perceptive. Cool part is he actually has some aptitude to learn and is like you said, eager.

Good help can't be too hard to find, sounds to me like you gat a winner. Regardless whether they are a he or she, the key is willingness to learn and to follow the rules. Will be she leaving when school starts or will she continue part time??

Great to hear it Red....that is the second young woman I have heard of who loves cars and is ready to learn, the other one lives at JCHobbs house (Stacey). Remember all you guys with daughters and grandaughters....we have quick reaction times and can be great employees...right Eriq??

My daughter will go to all the car shows that I can get to. The boys have no interest! Hang in there with her Red. As a business owner who has had more than my fair share of employees, you better take great care of her. Because GOOD employees are about impossible to find and keep!

My 19 year old daughter has a 67 Mustang conv. that she will not drive. She has told me since she was 13, "I will not drive that car". It is sitting in the shop still needing to be painted & that is all!!! She drives a 2007 Honda now. It is still her car & will always be hers. Maybe one day she will want to drive it.

Do you want to adopt a much older daughter? LOL I agree with Brian, get it painted and see how that changes her mind. If you are not a car person yet you cannot see the beauty in a almost there yet car.

Tammy, I can't afford the one I got!

What blows my mind is, she likes cars & goes to just about all the shows & cruise in's with me & the wife. Oh well, go figure!

Some people like the social aspect of the shows. Or maybe she will be the one who makes a great accessory- you know the pretty girl in the seat.

Well, Lynn...............One look and I knew right away why that pretty girl didn't want to drive that Mustang. IT'S A FORD!!!! Now, you get her a '67-'69 Camaro drop top and see what happens. And BTW, you stop pickin on my good friend, Happy Ray.
Red,Red,Red,.....................You should be ashamed of yourself, tellin these folks your "Old Folks Meals On Wheels Social Worker" is your "New Helper"! The Girl brings you your daily prune juice and you hand her a DA! That just ain't right, Red.

blksheep...chilin...in Charlotte

Orange shirted Happy Ray hisself, tellin yet another person where they can go and his new '55

blksheep, you have my sympathy since you know Ray. Mustang was a present from her Grandfather when she was 11. I did not buy it.

Red, you did not tell us that part of the story!!

Red,

She'll do just fine, especially with you as a mentor. The college auto body class I was in had a couple of the fairer sex and they all worked hard and got their projects done. I was amazed at the quality of the work they did.

Red, congrats on the willing helper. they are hard to come by these days. i find most girls have more patience when sanding and taping a car. Good luck to her with the summer job.
