Well, this is our new projest. It's a 1962 Mercury Monterey S-55. Purchased it from my cousin, earlier this year, before he lost his battle with brain cancer. We're going to go through it and bring it back to drivable condition. Just the way he liked it. It hasn't run in15 or so years, floorboards are shot, 390 motor free, interior is somewhat salvagable. Some of the small trinkets are "unobtainium" due to the low production numbers of the S-55 package. Overall, it's pretty intact and comes with a parts car and a half.

Does anyone know of a place where I can get floorboards that will fit this..like out of a 62 Ford Galaxie?

Crazy bout a Mercury!!! nice looking car, bet you won't see one of those going the other way when you drive it!! Check Mac's auto parts in Lockport NY, they carry a lot of Ford/ Mercury parts. That interior trim is amazing, should clean up real nice.

Wow, hope you can save it. My parents bought a '62 Mercury Montclair and had it into the early 1990's. The car spent all of its life in Texas yet it nearly fell apart from the rust worms eating just about everything but the hood along with the front and rear fenders. The doors on those guys are real bad about rusting from the inside out. If I'm not mistaken the floor in that guy is one piece from the firewall back to the trunk. It's almost like a uni-body mounted onto a frame. A lot of '62 Ford body parts will interchange. I have a Hollander's interchange manual that covers the year, so if you need any help give me a shout. There are also resources to be found on the International Mercury Owners Club web site, but you'll probably do better with Ford Clubs dedicated to the era. If you'll shoot me the info from the I.D. Plates I can give you a full breakdown on the car. An S-55 is a rare find, not many of them around. Not many were produced.

Just found a web site you'll want to check out. It has the full Motor Trend road test done with a '62 Mercury S-55.

Davy, got a MAC's catalog on the way. Almost afraid to touch all that stainless. Looks too cool. Dig the A/C?

Starfire, thanks for the info. I'll get the VIN number off of it and send it to you. It's currently about an hour from my house but will be here soon. From what I've found, there are only about 2500 or so of this model made. Sad thing is, a friend works at the local junk yard and theyjust scraped oethatthey towed in from anold ladies house. They just thought it was an ol Merc....pulled the390 and away it went. There goes my spare chrome.

It will be interesting to see which engine that S-55 has. The majority of them came off the line in '62 with a variation of a 406, which while an FE block like the 352 and 390 it is/was virtually a racing engine developing either 385 bhp or 405 bhp depending upon the carb setup. The only other engine used on the S-55 was a 330 bhp 390 and it was paired with an automatic transmission. The 406's all came bolted up to a 4 speed.

This car has the Cruise-omatic = FMX with rear pump. I remember fixing it i this car back in the 80's. forgot to check, but i think it has a 2-bbl on it and I can't tell from the pictures that I took. I know it is all original because he basically bought it from the original owner and if it was swapped, I would have done it for him. One neat option.......it came with a spot light. I found it in a box of parts and his brother confirmed that it was on the car when purchased. The parts car that came with it is a std 2 door and not an S-55. (rats) Do you need the VIN number or the codes off of the ID plate?

Yeah, go ahead and shoot me all the info on the plate and I'll decode it for you. At least you'll know everything about the car as it was produced whether it is that way now or not.
