NHRA announced today, that as an interim safety measure, they are shortening the race distance for Nitro class cars (T/F & F/C) to 1,000 ft. beginning with the Mopar Mile High Nats. in Denver. This, IMO, is a monstrous decision on their part, albeit an error on the side of safety. Let's hope the fan base can relate to the reduced times and speeds a 1,000 Ft. will yield. Of course everyone will agree that given the serious injuries and lives lost over the past decade, major safety innovations are in order. I, for one, don't know what that balance of riveting entertainment and driver/spectator safety is.

P.S........It's been a show in it self just watching the construction of Charlotte's new all concrete, 4 lane, yes, that's correct, 4 lane state of the art NHRA Drag Strip that's scheduled to open this September. Thanks, Bruton. We've waited a long time.

I have no problem with that, as I stated earlier! Wow, who will be the first driver to dip into the 3's!!!!!!!!! For the fans the biggest thundering, chest pounding thrill is at the start to about 600 ft. anyway!

What kind of gear ratios do those nitro cars run now???

Jim Head has been lobbying for that change for a while. Shortens up the grandstands a bit.

Is this for all tracks, or just some of the shorter ones??
