Hey Shine, I was wondering if you have any tips for shooting SPI universal clear? I have mastered shooting the primer and the base coat, have shot some of the pieces with clear, but dont want any runs. By the way , thanks for all the painting advise, has gotten me through the whole process. It is very hard, thats all I can say.

boop , spi uv clear is really tuff to run . never have that in your mind when you paint or it will have thin coats or dry spots.

before you clear a piece clear it with your hand. spread your fingers out like the fan . this is called mapping . you fly into one without a map and it will most likely cause problems. look for over laps as in hitting a spot more than once. set your gun for slow deliberate passes. not wide open. it takes a long time to get your speed matched to wide open. i still prefer a slower pace so i can control the coat. do your jambs first and let flash 15 min then clear the body. nothing counts until the last coat. do 3 coats and then block with 600. then 3 more coats allowing plenty of flash time . let me know if i can help.

Thanks for the advise, I think I can handle that. Couple more questions...what if you do get a run in between coats of clear? Is there a way to sand them out (400 grit) with out going to far. Also IF and I dont plan to have any, but if you get a run on a last coat, will it buff out?

if you map it and post the da list in the booth with you this wont happen . keep a dagger brush in the booth with you. if you get a run dip the brush in the reducer then run it through your finger then pull the sag out with the brush. next coat will cover it. if you get a sag in the final coat use a shaver block from eastwood to shave down the sag. never try to sand out a sag. it it is where the shaver block wont work put a piece of tape over it and sand thru it. you will get rid of 90% of it before touching the surrounding area. give me a call if you want and i'll walk you thru it.

and the da list is a dumb ass list. i use one everytime
